WASHINGTON, D.C., April 16, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The House ethics committee has drafted rules that for the first time would define gay married couples as “spouses” for the purposes of filling out their annual Congressional financial disclosure forms, Roll Call (RC) reported Thursday.
While the changes would not directly affect any openly gay congressmen, as none have been legally "married" to a homosexual partner, the regulations could affect any number of senior Congressional staff, who are also required to complete the form, notes the news service.
RC reports that the new rules were briefly posted on both the ethics committee web site and the web site of the Clerk of the House, before being removed after Roll Call's inquiry.
Under the new heading “Same-Sex Marriages,” the draft rules reportedly state: “In 2009, there were a total of four states which issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa and Vermont. (New Hampshire and the District of Columbia began issuing such licenses effective in 2010). If you and your spouse were issued a marriage license by any of these states and were subsequently legally married in that state, you must disclose all required spousal information on your Financial Disclosure Statement.”
Should they be adopted, the new rules would be the first time the U.S. Congress has recognized same-sex "marriage." However, the changes have been blasted by both sides of the debate: gay "marriage" activists are upset that the forms convey obligations without all the benefits of the institution, while pro-family advocates have criticized another step by the federal government to undermine the traditional definition of marriage.
“This is yet another example of the unequal treatment created by the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act," complained Brian Moulton, chief legislative counsel for the gay rights advocacy group Human Rights Campaign, according to RC. "Married same-sex couples should be subject to the same obligations, and entitled to the same rights and benefits, as their heterosexual counterparts.”
Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) Friday that the rules are "an example of the arrogance in Congress and the overreach of a government that is too big."
"These draft rules would violate the Defense of Marriage Act and work to undermine the law and that can't be allowed," said Wright.
However, Wright said that the move was also "an acknowledgment that homosexual relations carry the potential for corruption and conflicts of interest": she cited the example of Barney Franks' defense of Freddie and Fannie Mac despite the enormous scandal, a move which seemed inexplicable until it was discovered that Franks' boyfriend was a high-level executive at the latter institution.
Nonetheless, she said, "Ethicists must find other ways to protect the integrity of government than by ignoring the law."
Congress should hold session one day every two years.
Is this really what is important right now? I think all government should be forced to do business in a big ship about 100 miles offshore. And every American should have a reset button, when 66% of the buttons are pushed at once, the ship would capsize and sink. With all sole less on board lost of course.

Oh please, let them get married. It’s not worth arguing over - besides the muslims will execute them if they ever get total control and so that argument is moot.
Wrong! Such a decision impacts ALL aspects of YOUR life. If you are a professional photographer, caterer, restaurant, etc., you may not refuse to accommodate their wedding. If you have children in public schools, you may not pull your children from health classes where gay sex is taught. You may not refuse to rent or sell a property to these individuals. Worse yet, any minister who quotes scripture that disagrees with gay marriage, can and will be arrested. It has happened in Canada. Is this what you really want?
I want rid of the muslim in the white house. That is my first priority. Besides, marriage is a double-edged sword, with it comes divorce and it won’t take very long for gays to drop that request entirely. It is one thing for your partner to leave you - it is entirely different if your partner leaves you and takes half your stuff. Besides, if you don’t think gays are already active in every aspect of life - you’re wrong.

You and many others ... but that was not the question. If you have children or grandchildren, do you want them indoctrinated into the gay sexual lifestyle? Do you agree that gay marriage is the same as heterosexual marriage?
I’m not going to get into an argument with you about it. I have served in the military - and yes there have been gays serving for many years. I work with gays, I have patients who are gays. There is a difference between a person who is gay and a person who is a pedophile or one who wants to indoctrinate children. You’re painting them with a broad brush. Right now, I don’t think it matters what they do because if we do not stop Obama, you’ll be worrying about whether or not your little Christian children are going to get their heads cut off.
Come on now, we're largely a competent people (Conservatives, anyway.) We're well able to fight off the burglar breaking into our house AND the arsonist trying to burn it down at the same time.
Why does it have to always be either/or with the sycophants?
These people are, in the most most explicitly-defined sense of the word, abominable.
I have children. I also have gay family members. I do not fear that gays are trying to indoctrinate my children. I do not want sexuality taught to elementary school children - gay or straight. I do not particularly see gays as the greatest threat to our society. I don’t see a gay relationship as a threat to my heterosexual relationship. I do not see a gay marriage as a threat to my marriage. It is not an important issue to me.
This is why it is important to know what is going on with your children, to pull them out of schools that are teaching things that go against your belief system. Vote with your feet, pocketbook, whatever. This push to provide “diversity” training is a direct result of the civil rights movement of the 60s. It was at that point that the federal government took over the role of parenting for many families. But ONLY going after “homosexual indoctrination” is like cutting the toe off the dog - the rest remains. This whole policy of allowing the government to dictate the personal relationships of individual citizens has to be destroyed in its entirety. Or else you get:
