TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Gov. Charlie Crist has vetoed a controversial bill that would have made it easier to fire Florida teachers and link their pay to student test scores.

so?
crist was given money, what does he care about anything else?
Exactly! That's why RINO-ism makes absolutely no sense from a political perspective. The unions, media, etc., will always support the Democrat, no matter what.
My question would be, "How do you correlate test scores with teaching?" Most such schemes (including bonus pay for scores, etc.) assume that all kids are identical. A teacher who gets 75% of his lower-level (i.e. reading 3-4 years below grade-level) kids to pass a standardized test may very well be a miracle worker. An honors teacher with a 75% pass rate is a worthless lump ... honors kids ought to have a 100% rate with little effort on a minimum standards test). So how do you factor in these variables without simply firing every teacher who is unlucky enough to teach low-levels? And who decides which teachers' test scores are evidence of their teaching and not other variables (who watches the watchmen...)?
Bass turd!
A PRO-LIFE DEMOCRAT AND A LIBERAL REPUBLICAN
So you did answer my question because teachers just don't get fired for incompetence.
RINOs only protect rinos.
Rinos eat cash.
The unions are holding out the point of a sword to the RINOs.
The unions have more than enough pension money to donate.
So then how do you fire a teacher for being incompetent?
You do not need test scores to prove a teacher is incompetent. A good administrator can tell when a teacher is not doing their job
Problem is too many administrators are just there to fill up space....they are clueless as to running things. Florida schools are filled with too many non-teaching admin and personnel...and they are a hinderance to education
And....test scores are a ted Kennedy legacy....and I do not want any of Ted Kennedy legacy around our schools

SPEAKERS:
CHRIS WALLACE, HOST
GOV. CHARLIE CRIST, R-FLA.
WALLACE: Speaking of these questions about your political future, there have been persistent rumors in Florida that you are so far behind, at least currently, in the polls double digits to Mr. Rubio that you may run instead as an independent.
Here is your chance to dispel all the rumors. Are you willing to pledge right here, right now that you will run in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate and not run as an independent?
CRIST: Im running as a Republican. Im very proud to be from the party of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, others that really have stood up for the principles of our party, like Ronald Reagan.
This is a great party. It has a great future. We have a great opportunity to win in November. Its important that we put a candidate up that can win in November.
WALLACE: So are you ruling out that you will file as an independent by the April 30th deadline?
CRIST: Thats right. Thats right. Im running as a Republican.
WALLACE: You will run not for a governor youll run for Senate, and you will run as a in the Republican primary.
CRIST: Chris, Im running for the United States Senate. I know that our country needs help. Im running as a Republican. This man to my left is a friend but I hope to defeat him on August the 24th, and I would encourage every Florida Republican to get out and vote.
WALLACE: Will you support the winner of the GOP primary, whether its you or Marco Rubio?
CRIST: Of course I will. Of course I will. But I think before that decision is made, people
WALLACE: Well, Im going to get Im going to Ill give you an opportunity for a final statement. I just want to say, though, you are saying you are going to run in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate. You will not run on the no party affiliation line.
CRIST: Thats right. Thats right. Thats what Im saying.
LOL! Ya, right. And the union will let a teacher get fired for incompetence because "a good administrator can tell".
Admit it. Incompetent teachers don't get fired. They get moved.
Granny Panties Crist Strikes Again!
This is setting the table to run as an independent. He has nothing to lose at this point. The RATs know they have a loser in Meek. They will back-door their support to Crist in the general election (if he goes indy).
.
Bushbacker, you going to the tea party by lake mirror? Look for me if you do. Rubio was supposed to speak but his father’s illness prevented him from coming.
Sorry, Doc! Couldn’t make it. My wife was there and said it was a mob of people! A bunch of Freepers were in Orlando for their (Orlando’s) Tea Party and had a booth/table, which we normally man.
FL is #8 in eduction per this email i received tonight from Jeb’s organization:
Statement on Veto of SB 6
I am disappointed by the veto of Senate Bill 6, said Jeb Bush, former Governor of Florida and Chairman of the Foundation for Floridas Future. By taking this action, Governor Crist has jeopardized the ability of Florida to build on the progress of the last decade, which includes raising student achievement across the board, narrowing the achievement gap for poor and minority students, and improving graduation rates. Floridas sustained improvement is the result of bold reforms that were challenging, controversial and sometimes even unpopular. Reform is hard work but without a commitment to change, Florida would not be 8th in the nation today.
I applaud the courageous members of the Senate and House of Representatives for their leadership in advancing the bold reform that will eventually transform education in Florida. I applaud Commissioner Eric Smith for his unwavering service to our state and its students. I also applaud Floridas business leaders for their efforts to improve the quality of education for our states 2.7 million students.
For more information on the Foundation for Floridas Futures commitment to advocating policies that keep the promise of a quality education for all of Floridas students, please visit www.afloridapromise.org.
You do not need test scores to prove a teacher is incompetent. A good administrator can tell when a teacher is not doing their job.
This is the tried and true way of the private sector. However, teachers have unions and tenure.
For those arguing that you shouldn’t throw out the baby with the bathwater, the baby has drowned. The one thing that standardized tests do is that they focus instruction away from frivolous crap.
