Officers with the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority have a suspect under investigation in the animal abuse case of Courage, a German shepherd found nearly starved to death April 7.
The suspect is a 26-year-old woman who lives in Bellflower, according to Capt. Aaron Reyes with SEAACA.
"We will not discount the crime here," he said. "We will go after a felony charge."
The dog, which ate dirt to survive, was taken from the home by an anonymous Good Samaritan on April 7 and transported to an animal emergency hospital in Orange County.
Volunteers with the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County were called in to assist with his care.

UPDATE 4/15 and 16:
4/15/10 Continuing to defy the odds, Courage is rebounding very well. We will get new photos as soon as we can. He is taking steps and really doesn’t seem to know what all the fuss is all about. He just cares about eating and getting lots of attention! A suspect is under investigation and we are hopeful that an arrest will be made!
April 16 - Nine days after his rescue, Courage’s tormentor has been CAUGHT! She is in custody and will be arraigned on Monday AM in Bellflower! We are all overjoyed! She has a criminal history, but not related to animals. This success is thanks to EVERYONE pulling together to close in on this animal abuser.

WONDERFUL NEWS!!
Thank you roamer_1 for the update!
The latest update:
The vet who owns the hospital where this bimbo worked called me personally to apologize. He was kind and wonderful and very upset himself. He said he had no idea that she even had a dog. He also said that she is NOT a vet tech, she is a vet attendant who cleans kennels. He offered anything GSROC needsanything-just let him know. I really honestly feel badly for this poor manshe only worked there for 6 months.
Interesting that Courage might get help from where the suspect worked.
i got two tomcats to claw her eyes out
