Well in terms of values, Ron Paul is a social conservative, or he does share their values. But he doesn’t believe in making everything a federal government issue. Back in the day, 150 years ago, 200 years ago, we had a very very small federal goverment. There were no federal laws against drugs, but drugs weren’t much of a social problem. The idea of gay marriage would’ve been considered insane. And God was all over the public square. Ron Paul is not a liberal. And he does have liberal supporters who probably wouldn’t agree with what Ron Paul has said about the establishment clause.

Freepers would absolutely love Ron Paul’s Supreme Court picks.

Oh good grief. The two parties are looking for the Republican candidate they can shove down our throat like they did McCain.

This was a real Rasmussen poll. Not the poll spamming that Ron Paul people do. There will certainly be more of that later.

Who did they ask, his office staff?

In a real election I doubt he could 25%!

30 years ago, many people thought that marijuana was right around the corner from being legalized. If you went back 30 years ago and asked people if they thought marijuana would be legal in 2010, you’d probably find as many people who thought it would be legal as would be illegal. And if you go back 50 years before 1980, you’ll find that there were no federal laws against marijuana at all.

Historically, laws against marijuana will likely be seen as a weird blip.

Marijuana and heroin are not the same thing by the way.

Go Huckabee, right?

On FR, most people do come around to the Republican nominee in November though.

That's a shame, too...especially when you consider who the GOP has been nominating lately.

As for this FReeper, I'm not voting for a POTUS candidate that will not earnestly protect & defend the Constitution of the United States -- regardless of which Party he or she belongs to.

Nope, real poll. Rasmussen poll of likely voters.

You question the methodology of Rasmussen?

Rasmussen is our favorite pollster.

I want smaller government, so I want Ron Paul to be President.

We already have an anti-American in the White House who wants to have America's ability to defend itself destroyed. Why would you want another one? If cut and run was president we would have a smaller government, because we would have NONE. The mooseslimes that obeyme and cut and run love so much would have complete control of it.

You’ve thought this one through, and you are confident that if Ron Paul was President, Muslims would have complete control of the US Government.

That’s your argument against Ron Paul?

1) If Ron Paul was President, Muslims would control the US Government
and (probably)
2) Ron Paul is a kook

My argument, or my understanding of Ron Paul’s argument, is that these wars are expensive. And Ron Paul is in favor of smaller government. Shrink the Federal Government, not grow it.

I guess Ron Paul doesn’t fear that Muslims will take over the Federal Government as much as you do. And if Muslims taking over the Federal Government is your #1 concern, perhaps Ron Paul isn’t your guy.

Personally, I’m not sure exactly how Muslims could take over the US Government. (I mean, Obama aside, :-) )

You’d rather vote for Obama, who was for certain a Muslim when he lived in Indonesia, than Ron Paul, who is not a Muslim.

Could you explain to me exactly how Ron Paul’s policies might lead to a Muslim takeover of the US Government?

I mean, most people who don’t like Ron Paul don’t like Ron Paul because they like big government. Some people think that Ron Paul won’t take taxpayer money and spend it on expensive wars. Those people like expensive big government wars, and Ron Paul would take that big government away. Some people think that might close down the DEA and take laws off the books, leaving it up to the states to decide their own drug policy. They like the Federal Government telling people what to do, and Ron Paul would stop that.
I can understand that, it’s a philosophical difference. Some people like big government, some like small government.
I like small government.

But your concern, that Muslims will take over the US Government if Ron Paul is President, is a new one to me and I really have no idea how that possibly could happen. Please enlighten me about how that could happen.

Although I think we’re on the same side, it’s been bad policy for the Ron Paul people to declare that if there’s anything they don’t like about the Republican nominee, they’re going 3rd party. That isn’t what all Ron Paul people do. Some do, some don’t. But the Republican powers that be see that and don’t react well to it, to our detriment. Do what you want, but I don’t think the Ron Paul people should make a loud point about going 3rd party. I should add that I probably should have read your post a little closer before I wrote what I wrote.

Actually my bad...I was referring to Ron Paul’s son.

Paul Ryan is top notch, always has been.

A true American Patriot.

The Federal Government is not necessary to make marijuana illegal. States can do it. But, bye then.

I understand where you are coming from.

The ONLY reasons why I am "one of the Ron Paul people" is 'cuz, in comparison to all other current GOP nominees, he has been the most consistent candidate out there who has a track record of protecting & defending the Constitution of the United States. PLUS, he has the non-interventionist/America First foreign policy that was espoused by the Founding Fathers. That's it; nothing else.

Most of our fellow FReepers consider that type of foreign policy to be "isolationist" & one of weakness, but I think that's total BS. It seems to me that the PaulHaters have a foreign policy in which they think it's America's place to police the world & "spread democracy", & I believe THAT weakens our military by scattering them abroad rather than being strong & protecting the homeland like I think it should.

If a Republican who had more of an Originalist view RE: the Constitution & foreign policy were to emerge from the shadows, I will gladly support him or her. I believe that they are out there: Reps. (or former Reps.) tom Tancredo, Michele Bachman (sp?), Dana Rorhabacher (sp?), Jeff Flake, & Duncan Hunter re a few of them, re well as Sens. Tom Coburn & Jim DeMint are some others that I hold in high regard.
