"IIRC, isn’t Rep. Pence a little wishy washy on illegals?"

That appears to be his one weakness. He is one of the few GOP leaders who stood up to out of control spending when it was being promoted by the GOP itself. He led the revolt from the Republican Study Committee against the Bush spending spree and got taken to the woodshed more than once by the GOP leadership. In addition to being rock solid on fiscal issues, is is solid on social issues and is a pretty good communicator given his background in radio. He should be able to mobilize the various sections within the conservative movement including the religious right. The ability to lead a united conservative movement is a major factor for me in deciding who to back.

“Push poll” is a term of art. This was not a “push poll” Push polls are a political campaign tactic where a candidate calls voters and asks loaded questions.

Here’s a push poll question:

If you knew that Mitt Romney brought Gay Marriage to Massachusetts, would that make you more likely or less likely to vote for him?”

The point of the call is not to get the responses, the point of the call is to tell the person that Mitt Romney brought Gay Marriage to Massachusetts.

If Ron Paul had his way, we’d have legal whorehouses in every city, we’d have 7-Elevens selling heroin and we’d have NO ALLIES OVERSEAS!

ARE YOU ALSO A 9/11 TRUTHER?

There were a lot of young people excited about smaller government last time. No reason to think they won’t be again. And there’s that tea party thing which tends to support the idea that people want less goverment, more freedom.

A Rasmussen Reports poll pitting liberal anti-American leaning anti-Republican Rep. Ron Paul against President Obama for the 2012 presidential election finds the two men within one point of each other among likely voters.

There, I fixed it.

If the goal of the Republican party is to stick to the idea that they’re going to do 95% of what the Democrats would do, that might not be such a bad thing. We need to have a party that will shrink the government every time. I would like that party to be the Republican Party. But we need a party that will shrink the government more than we need the Republican Party. Why are there more Conservatives than Republicans? There are clearly Conservatives that think that Republicans are not Conservative enough. Could there be a party called the Conservative Party? (I know there is one in NY)

I’m of the opinion that you support who you want in the primary, no compromises, and support the Republican in the general.

On FR, most people do come around to the Republican nominee in November though.

The Ron Paul forum has put out a request that the Paulbots come to this thread.

By “neck and neck” I assume you mean they’re both eating from the same latrine?

I could embrace that as long as they don’t abandon the social platforms foundational to conservatism (God & family). Which means NOT abandoning of the drug war, taking on the homofascists (no gay marriage) and allowing God back in the public square. Not only would Ron Paul turn his back on these, but his isolationist foreign policy would be a boon to Global Islamic extremism.

Sounds good to me. He needs to see the light in regards to illegals, otherwise, he looks like the real deal.

He’d make a good Speaker.

Ron Paul believes that states can make those decisions for themselves. If California thinks that heroin should be sold in 7-Elevens it’s up to California to make that decision.

Do you think California would make that decision?

Ron Paul believes in small government. There are lots and lots of things that the federal government should simply have no opinion about. Not no heroin, or full on heroin, but don’t care. I don’t want the federal government having opinions on every last facet of the lives of Americans. We have states, states have laws, and we should let the states have their own laws. People then could choose which state to live in based on which laws they like the most. If you don’t like marijuana, live in a state that makes marijuana illegal (I doubt any state would make heroin illegal).

I believe in limited government, one where the federal government doesn’t care about too much, it doesn’t take much of your money, doesn’t tell you what you can and can’t do.
States can decide. You know, I’m conservative.

Really clever, you “fixed it” by adding an insult to Ron Paul. I’ve never seen that before. Can you be my campaign manager?

Ron Paul won a poll? Gee, never heard of that happening... lol.. How have all those massive poll victories worked out for him in terms of actual votes again?

Well, if they’re here, they should be polite and reasonable. This particular threat is pretty polite and reasonable overall, I guess, if they’re here, the Ron Paul people are more polite and reasonable than you think.

Well, you’re not the first person to point out “my” typo.

But, the way I put it is exactly what CBS News has.

And you’re not supposed to change the headline, because people are supposed to check headlines in order to prevent duplicate posts.

If CBS News changes it, I have printed that article to pdf.

And how many states now have legalized medical marijuana? How many are considering full legalization? Who’d have fathomed that 30 years ago? Will it be fine with you if both of the coasts are stoned out of their gord in 30 years, while the sober flyover states subsidize their stupors? California is the perfect test case of how “leaving it up to the States” is sucking the Fed dry.

There’s PLENTY of things government needs to get their Nazi noses out of. More every day. But there’s a bedrock of cultural norms which MUST be preserved. I’ll not abet the slippery slope of permissive debauchery greased by someone who calls themselves conservative.

And National Security begins on FOREIGN soil. Minding our own business is what got the Jews enslaved for 450 years. I’ll have none of that from those who pray to Allah.
