President Barack Obama will outline a revamped space policy on Thursday that will use $6 billion in new funding over five years to create 2,500 new jobs in Florida with the ultimate goal of going to Mars.
Obama has been facing criticism from some members of the far-flung U.S. space community over the direction of space policy after NASA officials announced plans in March to kill the Constellation program that had been designed to launch astronauts into orbit and return Americans to the moon.
The Constellation program, developed under the Bush administration, was aimed at returning astronauts to the moon in the 2020s to clear the way for a Mars mission.
White House officials said on Tuesday that Obama wants NASA to begin work on building a new heavy lift rocket sooner than envisioned under the canceled Constellation program, with a commitment to decide in 2015 on the specific rocket that will take astronauts deeper into space.

The list, ping
However, 0 is not the right guy to fix it.
Would that "green" be the 335 Million dollar contract extension with the Russians?
Too late, the damaging headlines are already out there.
Part of it.
He’s totally incomprehensible.
He says one thing one day and then changes it over the next week or so.
zero can be rolled is the conclusion.
He is an empty suit, that has NO core.
Now I know what Sakozy meant when he said that Eu types thought Zero was a liar.
“Our Idiot-in-Chief belatedly found out that by canceling Orion he was canceling a few thousand jobs in Colorado, which his people have been claiming is a new blue, or at least purple state.
Too late, the damaging headlines are already out there.”
I don’t like to see people face misery, but they asked for it. That’s what they get for being a “new purple” state.
My nephew is a plumber here in Ohio. This past Saturday night after a few drinks, I asked him how that hope and change was working for him. He said it wasn’t working out too well.
Don’t let the morons forget. “I told you so” is not only acceptable, it’s essential in this case.
Hussein sucks. Big time.
BHO must be desperate, trying to buy the geek vote.
The sooner he goes to Mars, the better.
Great post. Thanks for the ping.
This will be more funding for James Hansen and his scammer friends, to find a way to make up “satellite” evidence for AGW nka “Anthropogenic (human-caused) climate change” (fka “global warming”, fka “global cooling”).
B.O. fools no informed person.
Don't forget just how adroit a liar Obama is. Many people were fooled by his act during the election campaign.
“Don’t forget just how adroit a liar Obama is. Many people were fooled by his act during the election campaign.”
Only the lazy ones who did no investigation. Those that were too lazy, or too inattentive to suspect Obama need to hear “I told you so”.
I’m not genius, and I wasn’t fooled.
But you have touched on my biggest problem with Obama. He lies constantly, and with great ease. He makes Hillary look like she only stretched the truth.
The problem is ordinary voters who aren't news junkies and who are in the tender mercies of the MSM can be fooled. Plus, the country hasn't been treated to a full-blooded liberal Democrat since Johnson and memories have faded. They haven't even been treated to an incompetent Democrat since Carter and that was 30 years ago.
This is proving a hard lesson for the voters to learn again.
“Obama would restructure the Constellation program and allow NASA to develop the Orion crew capsule to provide stand-by emergency escape capabilities for the International Space Station.”
Why do this? We have the Russians for the ISS. Talk about building a bridge to no where...
Our Idiot-in-Chief belatedly found out that by canceling Orion he was canceling a few thousand jobs in Colorado, which his people have been claiming is a new blue, or at least purple state.
Too late, the damaging headlines are already out there.
Not to mention once again tempting the hanging chads of Florida...
So does this mean they will still layoff 8,000 but then hire 2,500 more in their place?
