Rand Paul Builds Double-Digit Lead in Race for Kentucky GOP Senate Nod

Rand Paul, son of Texas Rep. Ron Paul and a favorite of the Tea Party movement, has built a big lead over Secretary of State Trey Grayson in the race for the GOP Senate nomination in Kentucky, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted April 9-11.

The race has been depicted as a test of the movement's influence, pitting a candidate trying to capitalize on the voter anger it reflects against an establishment Republican who has won re-election to his position three times. Grayson has fought back with TV ads honing in on Paul's "strange ideas," such as saying "Paul even wonders whether 9/11 was our fault."

Paul is ahead of Grayson by 45 percent to 30 percent with 6 percent for three other candidates and 19 percent undecided.

Conservatives favor Paul by 51 percent to 29 percent with 16 percent undecided. Those who attend religious services regularly or occasionally favor Paul by double-digit margins. Gun owners back Paul 48 percent to 22 percent with 22 percent undecided. There is an income gap between Paul and Grayson supporters: Paul leads among Kentuckians earning less than $50,000 a year by 49 percent to 22 percent with 21 percent undecided, but his margin is much smaller (42 percent to 38 percent) among those earning over $50,000.

Ah, don’t tell me you haven’t heard of Axelrod’s use of “concern trolls”? It’s the internet equivalent of seminar callers.

Oh.

No, I hadn't heard of that one yet.

In my case, I picked my screen name because my favorite subjects of study are theology and economics.

I'm guessing that these "concern trolls" wouldn't necessarily have the education proper to the nom-de-guerre they adopt for infiltration purposes. Would you like to start quizzing eachother on theology for the purpose of establishing my bona fides for my choice of screen name?

Here, I'll start: The bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ of Nazareth -- would you say that this is an historical event which factually did occur?

Jim Bunning has a terrific voting record but it’s the right time for him to retire. He almost blew his last reelection.

I liked the guy that dropped out.

But I’d sooner take a chance on Grayson who I suspect will have a mainstream conservative voting record like the man he wants to replace.

I’m a libertarian conservative but I can’t ignore these fringe elements associated with the Paul movement.

I was all for Deb Medina in Texas before her truther bomb. Can any Paulite candidate be trusted?

The prior statements about fringe elements and Medina answers your own question.

May 18th. Rand Paul wins.
Kentucky faced with an epidemic of Trey Grayson supporters' heads exploding.

The happy result from this otherwise tragic event being that the Kentucky GOP becomes considerably more Pro-Life. (Grayson is leading only amongst Pro-Abortion voters; no other demographic supports Grayson over Paul).

I hae no answer for your question. I will note daddy Paul was promoted in the same way years ago...now we have data, and I’m underwhelmed.

It appears his son will win the primary. I’d say he has a good chance of winning come November. Then we get six years worth of data. And maybe it will show my gut feeling is incorrect.

But I doubt it. We’ll see.

I liked her when I very first heard her speak.

Then, I did a little digging to see if she was the one I wanted to support for the nomination.

I almost immediately discovered that she was a serious, obsessed Paul acolyte. One of her colleagues even said, "With her, it's all about Ron Paul." Doing an internet search on her produced all of these Ron Paul-related pages.

Of course, I backed away very quickly and did not continue supporting her. A couple of weeks later, she dropped the truther bomb and her numbers went crashing down.

Rand Paul lies. Debra Medina did really well, too, until she slipped. Think Dr. Strangelove and the right arm.

As to Grayson, I don’t see any evidence that he’s such a liberal. Sorry. Certainly not enough for a Ron Paul critic and a Debra Medina critic to suddenly turn. Maybe he isn’t perfect, but when you hold office, sometimes you make bad decisions or you have to make a choice between bad options.

It happens when you just can’t blab your mouth off, like Rand Paul does. Imagine a candidate who has never had to cast a vote or has cast very few. Why you can put on him all of your hopes and dreams! And he won’t ever ever ever ever fail to be what you expected.

It’s not like we have any examples of that.

You can quote polls all you want, but the activists know the lay of the land and KRTL knows what they’re doing.

But I do appreciate the ad hominem at the beginning of your posts.

OK, now I know you’re a concern troll.

Feigning ignorance is a tell. Kind of like when Charlie Gibson pretended not to know about the ACORN scandal.

Also a key uncovering the concern troll is observing the desire of the troll to quiz the interlocutor and to change the subject.

Gotta change the subject.

I would say no, but I would make an exception. If they have a record you can go back to, then you can judge them on that.

But they are all tabulas rasas, blank slates.

That was no ad hominem, you are a liar and thick as a brick at reading people and their politics.

“you don’t seem to really object to Stormfront itself or to be annoyed that your movement is being taken over by Stormfront.”

You have accused me of being a Ron Paul supporter, friendly to stormfront and part of a movement that you won’t give the name of, but which I suppose is libertarianism.

I am a very active freeper against all three.

Conservatives in Kentucky and especially social conservatives have rejected Trey Grayson and pro Abortion moderates are his only base, that says a lot to a reasonable person, you have not made your case for the liberal at all.

Actually, calling someone "a liar" is, by definition ad hominem. Pointing out a particular lie is not.

“you don’t seem to really object to Stormfront itself or to be annoyed that your movement is being taken over by Stormfront.”

This is the absolute truth. Note the word "seem."

You have accused me of being a Ron Paul supporter, friendly to stormfront and part of a movement that you won’t give the name of, but which I suppose is libertarianism.

First, the Pauls use libertarianism as a cloak. They are Bircher cranks and Buchananites. Second, it is a funny Rand Paul sycophant who is not a Ronulan. I've asked the question before: "Do you think that Rand Paul is awesome because he's nothing like his father or do you think that Rand Paul is awesome because he's exactly like his father?" His supporters generally answered the latter, but a few answered the former.

What does that tell you?

Third, the "movement" is the rEVOLution. Rand Paul, son of The Only Man Who Can Save America.

and pro Abortion moderates are his only base,

Except for Kentucky Right To Life. You keep missing that.

So you are a liar, you will evidently try to sell anything as a poster as long as it serves you goals, that includes trying to sell bizarre lies about me.

Trying to portray an anti Ron Paul, anti stormfront, and anti libertarian as just the opposite is simply lying.

Trey Grayson, from Bill Clinton to Mitt Romney, I don’t think that he will be winning his election in Kentucky.

Once again, an ad hominem without evidence. You claim to be anti-Ron and yet (a) you provide no evidence (and no, I won't search on it because you'll just come up with another excuse) and (b) you support his clone/son who was a full member of Ron's presidential run. Rand was Ron's spokesthing.

Other than the apparent orgasmic excitement you get about discussing homosexuality, you seem to be on a jihad against Romney.

Well, guess what, Rush Limbaugh supported Romney in the primaries too. He all but endorsed the man during the Florida primaries. Why? Better than McCain. So if your standard is the "touch of Romney" you're going to have to have a huge purge.

I note absolutely no criticism of Grayson's record.

And, unlike Paul, Grayson has one.

Changing the subject -- you mean like you're doing?

See, you're challenging my bona fides as to whether or not I'm Christian, or Capitalist. Well, I'm happy to discuss those subjects, and my own personal beliefs on them, with anyone who's willing to do likewise.

For example, "Amish" is a Christian (Mennonite-derived) religious denomination. Are YOU who you say YOU are? Given your accusations against me, I think that the question is legitimate. Let's find out.

So tell me: The bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ of Nazareth -- would you say that this is an historical event which factually did occur?
