It’s election day in congressional District 19

Voters in congressional District 19 today will choose a replacement for U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, the Democrat who stepped down in January to head a Middle East think tank.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The district has more than twice as many Democrats as Republicans and voted 65 percent for Barack Obama in 2008. That makes Ted Deutch, a state Senator from Boca Raton, the heavy favorite. But Republican Ed Lynch hopes to ride voter dislike for the new Democratic health care law to an upset victory. And independent candidate Jim McCormick hopes enough voters are fed up with two-party politics to propel him into office.

The winner serves the last 8-1/2 months of Wexler’s term and will be up for reelection to a full two-year term in the fall.

You have that right. I didn’t know they let children scribble in the district maps.

The population of the district is hard-core Democrat.

(At least it looks like it is.)

IMHO

According to Fox News, (I was watching), this district is one of the most solidly JEWISH in the U.S. Obama is not doing so well with the Jews right now.

If Scott Brown can win in Mass Lynch can win here. Some stuff I’ve been hearing on the ground about very light turnout in Democrat heavy precincts is good. Democrats have a 2-1 advantage. This is a heavily Jewish district with lots of seniors (40%). I have no idea how things will go but it appears that those who are most motivated to vote are the ones bothering to vote and in that case we win. This will be a hard seat to keep come Nov but winning would be at least as big as Scott Brown in MA since this district went 65% for Barrack Obama where MA went 62% to Obama. This district has actually gotten a bit better for the GOP since Gore won the district with over 70% and Kerry one point better at 66%.

Well it has the black areas of Bradenton, Tampa and St. Pete. They had to run the line along the Bay where nobody lives. It also includes Egmont Key that is only inhabited by loyal Democrat Gopher Turtles. She is a wild eyed fanatic socialist. Way too Liberal for the rest of Tampa but we are outnumbered.

“I hope Lynch wins.

He has a good shot.”

Any good polling data on this race?

I don’t think you can completely parallel the momentous victory of Brown, which was for “Teddy Kennedy’s seat”, and which forced the RATS to pass the Senate health fraud bill directly in the House, which bill repeal is now supported by 58% of US voters.

But it would still be HUGH and SERIES...;)

[The district has more than twice as many Democrats as Republicans and voted 65 percent for Barack Obama in 2008.]

Not much hope for a district where 65% think they aren't being taxed enough.

The 65% don’t think “you” are being taxed enough. Most of them are probably in the group which pays no federal income tax.

The positive impact — even if Lynch can just outrun expectations — is that it could lead to more RAT retirements in a hurry.

“The positive impact — even if Lynch can just outrun expectations — is that it could lead to more RAT retirements in a hurry.”

It goes even deeper than that. Most house members are able to shrug off an upset in a race for the Senate, or for Governor. These are statewide races, and tend to get a life of their own. But if a completely safe Democrat seat were to switch, or even be close, then there will be a lot of House members saying “that could be me.”

Legislatively, this could have a huge impact, in that many more house democrats will see themselves as vulnerable, and will be that much less likely to go along with cap-and-trade, amnesty, VAT, etc. But if this race isn’t close, then the current spin/conventional wisdom that the Republicans have peaked will be an easier sell, and these house democrats will a) breath a sigh of relief, and b) continue on with dismantling the country.

“According to Fox News, Obama is not doing so well with the Jews these days.”

I thought I was an immature fellow until I witnessed such people vote for Democrats with rigid uniformity.

(I hope Fox News is right.)

IMHO

Best regards.

I’m really hoping that a lot of these Democrat-heavy precincts aren’t so Democrat-heavy any more. Still, probably better if they stay hope, just to be safe.
