SALT LAKE CITY — Thanks to Mitt Romney, the head of the site selection team for the 2012 GOP National Convention said Tuesday she knows more about Salt Lake City than the other two cities competing to host the event: Tampa, Fla., and Phoenix.

Yes. I understand the anger with Romney for being a moderate but never understood the Mormon thing. From what I can tell some people consider it a different faith entirely? Apparently some Mormons consider the other Christians heretics also?

Politically speaking, Mormons are a very reliable conservative-voting group. But some foolishly love to attack their strong political allies over religious differences.

Dave and Tom didn't have a clue about what happened to them at the time. Dave was our landlord in Sugarhouse. He never blamed his religion for what they did to him. I had long talks in an attempt to help him understand...to no avail.

Well, it took "wild gymnastics" of passages from Revelation (re: "whore of Babylon") to come up with something. In other words, there is NO Scriptural passage that reads either: "Thus saith the Lord of the Catholics, Protestants by name are heretics" or "Thus saith the Lord of the Protestants, Catholics are the 'whore of Babylon.'"
The most that could be attributed was by insinuation or by accusation of a church leader or grassroots person. But the source of that was simply an opinion -- not necessarily God, and certainly not canonized revelation.
With the Mormons, that can't be said!!!
Why? Because Joseph Smith, in his very "first vision," claimed that...
...ALL of the Christian creeds were an "abomination" to not just Smith, but to th Mormon god...
...ALL of the Christian professors of their faith were "corrupt"...(again, not just an opinion of Smith, but of the Mormon god)...
...ALL of the non- "Lamb" churches (what Mormons interpret as non-Mormon churches) were under the umbrella of the "Church of Satan" (see Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 14:9-10)...
Smith's "first vision" became enshrined by a later generation of Mormons (mid 1870s) when they decided this was to be "canonized revelation."
Furthermore, official Mormon doctrine considers themselves to be "the only true and living church on the face of the earth" (Doctrine & Covenants 1:30) and that all others were/are part of a "universal apostasy."
There are various Protestant and Evangelical beliefs re: Catholics and the Catholic faith. You would be hard-pressed to come up with a canonized Bible passage saying, "Thus saith the Lord: Catholics are..."
The answer is yes.
Not a good idea for the Romney Camp. But Utah is gorgeous and Salt Lake City has a beautiful downtown. The Red Rock Brewery and Squatters are most excellent Restaurant/Bars. They would be PACKED each night (but do great business now; it would just be even better biz, and they deserve it). Good for them.
And the light of truth would shine upon the mormon cult and on Romney. I'm really likin' the idea that we have the GOP Convention there. I'd visit Salt Lake again to toast to Sarah Palin (and hopefully Michele Bachmann and to Jindal, too).....
They do not believe in the Biblical Jesus of the Bible.
And that poses a unique problem. Last time I checked, the USA was comprised predominantly of Christians.

Yes. The Mormons should continue to be complimented not only on Prop 8 from 2008, but Prop 22 in California in 2000 vote also defended marriage, and few people recognize the importance of Mormons contributing to that passing as well.

Because Romney has waffled many, many times on abortion, treatment of embryos, protecting the workplace from becoming a "civil rights" nest for homosexuals, the homosexual agenda itself. Many other Mormon political leaders have similar political agendas, despite their Mormon ties (Harry Reid, for example...about 1/4 of the Lds congressman are Democrats).
Basically, I would contend that "waffle" is the byword among Mormons. It didn't originate with Romney. The Mormon god was...
...first against polygamy (Book of Mormon)
...then for it (Smith's lifestyle & he then sought to back it up with his own hand-made 'revelation' in Doctrine & Covenants 132)
...then they were against it starting in 1890
...then then they were still for it -- with their leaders solemnizing an additional 260+ plural marriages between 1890-1910...
...then they were against it, ex-communicating people in the 1930s...
...then they were for it, with a leading apostle (Bruce R. McConkie) saying the Mormons would re-institute it upon Jesus' return (see book, Mormon Doctrine by McConkie).
...in the interim, or at least people die and live as polygamists on another planet, they are against it.
Likewise, Lds were against blacks as priestholders in the church -- even while Romney was still age 30 -- and then they were for it.
Just stick around long enough. The Mormon politician, the Mormon god, and the Mormon "prophet" will change their mind yet once again. And if the Mormon "prophet" does, then the Mormon "politician" is pledged to go along with that per Ezra Taft Benson, former ag secretary of the Eisenhower admin & former Lds "prophet."

Romney’s religion aside, I don’t find him appealing.
He had one moment, in his entire campaign, when he made sense and actually looked and felt like this was something he wanted.
For the rest of his campaign he was all to accommodating to his competitors and glad handed more than a few, as if there were some inside joke we weren’t privy to.
But, having the one speech, a concession speech, be your best pitch in the entire campaign?
You have got to be kidding. I liked the speech and particulars but that should been his act and message from the beginning.
Now what’s the difference in having the GOPC in SLC, NYC or even Vegas? None that I can see.
Just places and I look forward to hearing the GOPC plans but, my aprehension, based on their luke warm(if that at all) performance over the last 10 years, is they will have little substantive to say and a real apathy of commitment to do anything valuable for the rest of us.
So go ahead and have your little insider convention but, until you get a backbone, a vision and a fire in your belly, I will not support the GOP, in any way.
Lose Michael Steele. He is a disaster and I don’t care how much money he supposedly raised. The GOP would have likely raised that much anyway.
He has done nothing but attempt to line his pockets at the expense of GOP supporters and has no real record of accomplishment.
