Pundits can debate the political costs and benefits of Sarah Palin's decision to step down as Alaska governor, but the monetary advantages of leaving her $125,000-a-year public service post are beyond dispute.
Since leaving office at the end of July 2009, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee has brought in at least 100 times her old salary a haul now estimated at more than $12 million -- through television and book deals and a heavy schedule of speaking appearances worth five and six figures.
That conservative estimate is based on publicly available records and news accounts. The actual number is probably much higher, but is hard to quantify because Palin does not publicize her earnings. She reputedly got a $7 million deal for her first book, with the bulk of that money due after her resignation as governor, and $250,000 per episode, according to the entertainment trade press, for each of eight episodes of a reality show about Alaska for the The Learning Channel. She has managed to keep a lid on reliable figures for her earnings from a multi-year contract with Fox News and a second book deal with HarperCollins.
A Palin aide responding to questions from ABC News said the governor "is now a private citizen. As a result, her fees and earnings are private."

Unlike some politicians who steal my money, she has no money from me.
After a few minutes of memory searching, it came to me. Matthew Mosk is the (former?) Washington Post reporter who found himself deeply entwined in the MD4Bush Freeper story; logging onto somebody else's FR account to read private Freepmails. More info on that story can be found on Google, here.
God bless her and her family.
Ditto what you said.
I suppose that would be true, if that’s why she resigned the office. I don’t think it was.
Good for her!
But but but...
she’s not one of “the elite”!
How DARE she become wealthy!
The last notable person to defeat communists was, let's see, Ronald Reagan.
As a private citizen, Sarah can expose and demand investigation of political opponents, an act illegal for sitting politicians, but only enforced against Republicans.
Sarah makes the leftists stupid as well as angry, God bless her!
It’s not her success that bugs them so much.
It’s that she didn’t go to the “right” schools
and is successful.
I noticed ABC didn’t have the daily countdown today telling us how many troops were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
That's great for her and her family and a slap to those leftists zealots who were trying to drive her family into bankruptcy thru all of those ridiculous legal charges they made against her in Alaska.
LOL. Me too, Daisyjane69!
I want Sarah to be at least twice as wealthy as the skanky Clintons!
So how’s that detailed investigation into Hussein’s life/career coming along, ABC??
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Case in point. I watched O'Reilly last for the first time in years to evaluate Romney, who is also toast imo. After the interview I hung in killing time until 24 started. They ran a clip of Barney Frank on Leno or letterman, I forget which, doing word association. When the word was Palin the response was "quitter".
That is the hammer they will use and she gave it to them. Now they can paint her "real" motives as being strictly financial.
She’s had a better year than the president.
Really, if the left were wiser, they might have left her where she was.
Oh geez, there’s one in every crowd.
You go, Sarah! They’ve thrown everything at you and you come out on top. I respect that.
Bwaaahahahaha!
I love it.
That’s all? Hopefully the estimate is low.
Yeah, verily, and forsooth!. Thou hast the right of it!
Sarah is not really my cup of tea, ha ha small joke, BUT dittos on good for her. One can still be a financial success in America despite all the pitfalls. I hope she uses a good accountant to figure her taxes because surely the IRS will be perusing her return.
