Frustrated with our government, 4,000 people joined together at Chukchansi Park in downtown Fresno to say enough is enough.
"The biggest problem by far is the federal government is too powerful in our lives. They're bossing us around, telling us what we can and can't do. This country was never setup to be like that," said Steve Brandau of the Central Valley Tea Party.
"I'm just disgusted with what's happening to our country. Overspending, overtaxing, it's becoming a socialist country," said Saundra Hawkins.
Republican Steve Poizner, who is running for governor, believes he's on the same page as everyone who was in the stands.
"We need to get back to the basics. Individual liberty, personal responsibility, smaller government, lower taxes. That's how we can get this great state back on track," said Poizner.
Republican Damon Dunn wants to be the next Secretary of State.
"What we need in America and California today are strong principaled leaders," Dunn told the crowd.
Dunn says we don't need anymore ideas, just people who can execute them.
"We need someone who understands how to think strategically, that can lead 360 degrees. Leading down, leading laterally, build coalitions and then lead up. People that will be there well after you're gone. I feel I'm that kind of leader," said Dunn.
The main purpose of the event was not to be a political platform for candidates to capture votes. However, many enjoyed the opportunity of hearing their messages delivered uncut and in person.
"I've already heard some speeches that have changed my opinion about some of the candidates," said Hawkins.
Pinging y’all
One of the speakers was Danny Tarkanian who is the son of Jerry Tarkanian (was coach of Fresno State Basketball team and he also coached Las Vegas Nevada to the national championships). Anyway Jerry Tarkanian was there and his son Danny is running against Harry Reid!!!! Danny gave a great rousing speech and had us all shouting. Danny Tarkanian is going to kick Dirty Harry’s rearend right outta the Senate. And that will be a great day.
This tea party was just great!!!
Sounds like a good turnout. Did you see Jim Thompson?
Great turn out!
4,000 people, WOW.
These tea parties are getting bigger and bigger.
Very cool.
Highlight of the day for me - and the most emotional moment - was when we all stood and took the pledge to uphold and defend the Constitution - Oath Keepers. Very powerful.
All the speakers were fabulous, and Chris Daniel as M/C was perfect. I heard all the speeches - from our own Charlie Waters all the way to the last speaker, former governor of New Mexico. They were all great!
There arent quotes around this statement so I hope he didnt really say that.
Even if I in a way agree with that statement someone running for office cant say that.
What we need is a leader who can sift the grain from the chaff of ideas. Pick the ones that have some chance of working and execute them.
In reality all of the ideas that work are already known and proven and Poizner expressed them.
"We need to get back to the basics. Individual liberty, personal responsibility, smaller government, lower taxes. That's how we can get this great state back on track,"
The event went from 11 to 5. If every attendee would have sat down at the same time, I think the stadium would have been full. As it was people were coming and going and milling around. At any rate, it was a huge success. I listened intently to every speaker but by the time the last speaker hit the stage (former gov of New Mexico), a lot of people had left because they were pooped, I guess, and it started getting chilly. But I stayed ‘til the end and loved every minute of it. Wow!
Tom McClintock was there and gave a great speech. There was a group promoting “anyone but Costa” - there is so much anger over the water situation. Sean Hannity was mentioned and thanked for bringing attention to the lack-of-water situation.
I did not see Jim Robinson but I did see Mama_Bear and jkphoto. I’m sure there were other FReepers there but the crowd was huge and it was impossible to see everyone.
Hubby and I joined Oath Keepers that day. It was very emotional.
FriendAnn and I were there.
I missed Danny Tarkanian. I saw him at Henderson and talked to him for a couple of minutes.
Go, Danny, Go! Dump Reid!
“Go, Danny, Go! Dump Reid!”
Sis, I think he has what it takes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bye Bye Dirty Harry!!
I hated Danny Tarkanian when he played for Vegas and they continually beat Fresno State, but .... when Coach Tarkanian was coaching here and Danny was an assistant coach, I found him to be a very good kid and a likable guy. He is a fighter.
BUMP!
Yes, Jim Robinson was there, along with Sheila, Chris, JustAmy and FriendAnn . There may have been other freepers there, but I didn't meet up with any.
Nice to see the photos and to see Jim “looking good”!
Thanks for posting them.
