The Country Club Plaza area was awash with pepper spray Saturday night as police struggled to disperse a rowdy gathering of hundreds of young people.
At least one person was reported with a serious head injury about 11:20 p.m. in the parking lot outside Winsteads restaurant.
It wasnt immediately clear how the person was injured. The victim was taken to nearby St. Lukes Hospital.
Several dozen police officers spent much of the evening attempting to disperse large crowds totaling an estimated 500 to 1,000 people that gathered at various spots in the shopping district. Police at times used pepper spray at multiple locations to break up disturbances.

Just heard on the news they were from Westport High School and some came in from Raytown.
May have had something to do with the police car which was tailing the group.
The Silva's didn't mention the 'reason' they were following this 'group' of innocent angels. I'm sure it had nothing to do with being an investigative reporter concerned about the unfair treatment of 'minority yutes' out on an innocent evening stroll. Absolutely nothing. It was just a coincidence that the Silva's ran into and followed this 'group'.
You mean the art college students? Heck, they just live there. They weren't causing any trouble.
“Otavio Silva, the husband of Kansas City Star reporter Jill Silva, said he received a face full of pepper spray while he and his dinner party were walking behind a large group of young people.”
Maybe that will teach Otavio to leave those helpless, innocent yutes alone and quit following them all over the Plaza.
What amazes me is all the uncontrolled intersections (no lights, no stop signs) combined with the huge amount of foot traffic.
I assume they still block off parts of Westport, but I'm not sure they block off any of the rest of the Plaza.
Raytown? God's country? (or was).
It seems logical. They roll up the carpets in Raytown about 9pm. The 'restless yutes' gotta go somewhere.
Well, he doesn't live on the Plaza.
“You mean the art college students?”
No, I said what I meant, the gays. I’ve been gone for over 20 years from KC but from what I’ve heard, the gays had made Westport their hangout.
