NEW ORLEANS -- A more soft-spoken and humble Michael Steele assured his party faithful Saturday that he has learned his lesson from the Republican National Committees (RNC) recent troubles.
In life, you realize that you cant please everyone, but you can certainly make them mad at you the same time, and thats a lesson well-learned, Steele said at the outset of his speech to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.
Steele then offered a quasi-apology for the distractions that have plagued the RNC and led two members of the committee to call for his resignation.
Folks have been mad at us in the past, and we have learned from that past, Steele said. And we are ready to move on as Republicans, as conservatives."

All he has to do is outline the GOP platform then support it. If they are unable to do it, I am unable to support them.

Sounds like Steele suscribes to the "it's easier to apologize than it is to get permission" theory of human relations.
TRUST is a valuable commodity, and once it's lost it's very hard to get back.
Most of us are really, really, tired of waffling and rhetoric, we want to see some honesty, determination, consistency, and definitive action.
I would think with all the money taxpayers sacrifice to the spendthrift government, we should at least get a "reach around".

And it’s been frustrating to watch. The spectacle of the Democrats in charge of the national government increased GOP electoral prospects dramatically over the last year. Unfortunately, the RNC seemed stuck in McCain “middle” drive and didn’t know whether or not to connect with (let alone try to lead) the growing dissatistaction that producted GOP victories in Va, NJ and MA. With the prospects of a third party movement, and oh yeah, the utter desctruction of of the United States if the Dems aren’t thrown out of office in 2010 and 2012, maybe the RNC will get in the f#%&*^g game!

Steele probably thinks his big mistake was only spending $18,000 redecorating his office; should have spent $50,000

Apparently it is critically important to the GOP to have a BLACK man head the RNC. If they must play the RACE game, atelast out in someone like Thomas Sowell, someone who IS a conservative. Get rid of Steele.

I don’t buy it. As long as they continue to support RINOs like McCain I can’t trust them.

Did Steele learn from NY23 or not to play the race card???
I have a gut feeling that he has learned nothing, and will continue his stupidity tour.

Pence: Lets be honest, lets be honest. Three years ago Republicans in Congress didnt just lose their majority, they lost their way.
When I opposed No Child Left Behind, when I opposed the Medicare prescription drug bill, when I opposed the Wall Street bailout, I knew if we kept acting like big government liberals the American people are eventually going to go with the professionals.
And thats just what they did.
Truth is our party walked away from the principals that minted our national governing majority and the American people walked away from us. Read the rest of this entry »

He wasn’t referring to a Conservative Party.

Thanks for posting this. God bless the South. I can’t imagine that response at the Northern Republican Leadership Conference.
