RUSSELL COMMENTS ON POLISH TRAGEDY
(JOHNSTOWN, PA) – Kasia and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to the people of Poland on the tragic loss of so many of their national leaders in today’s plane crash. It is yet another devastating loss to a country that has sacrificed so much in the name of freedom. President Kaczynski along with several members of his Cabinet and their families were on their way to the 70th Anniversary commemoration of the murder of 22,000 Polish Officers and Cadets in the Katyn Forest by Stalin’s NKVD during World War II. Their loss today highlights the sacrifices of so many Poles which made the Allied victory in World War II possible.
For many Poles, today’s plane crash is too reminiscent of the plane crash which killed the ardent anti-communist Prime Minister- in-exile, General Wladyslaw Sikorski, near Gibraltar in 1943. I call upon President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to open all aspects of the crash investigation to the world. They can prove their transparency in this investigation, by opening the KGB’s archives on the execution of the Polish Officers and Cadets at Katyn. So long as Russia refuses to open the archives on Katyn, their transparency and truthfulness in the investigation of today’s plane crash shall remain in question.
I am a conservative. I believe in the sovereignty and security of this one nation, under God. I believe in the sanctity of life and that life begins at conception. I believe in marriage between one man and one woman. I believe that all children in our school systems should be educated in English and taught the civic duties and responsibilities of citizenship and patriotism. I believe that we have the responsibility and obligation to control our borders and determine who is allowed to live and work in our country. I believe in private property rights and that the death tax should be killed. I believe government economic policies should reward those who build business or save and invest their money. I believe in the right to bear arms and the right of self defense. I believe in rugged individualism and that no one owes me anything just because I live and breathe. I believe we should all practice charity in some form or fashion, especially to those who are suffering and least fortunate. But charity must be voluntary and spring from a spirit of altruism and love for your neighbor. I believe that imposed systems of wealth redistribution destroy families, produce a culture of dependence and hurt everyone. Finally, I believe there is room to acknowledge the role of our Creator in public life as stated in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. ---Bill Russell in his own words .

My wife, Kasia, is one of my heroes. For some strange reason, she saw fit to marry me eight years ago. She was born and raised in Poland where her father was one of the local leaders in the Solidarity movement against the communist government in the 1980s. We met and married while I was stationed in Germany. She moved to the US with me after we married, learned English and became a US Citizen. After surviving the attack on the Pentagon on 9/11 (while six months pregnant with our son), she continued to raise our children by herself for 19 months while I was deployed to Kosovo and then Iraq.Source

I believe that these great veterans will fight for us in D.C. to uphold and defend our Constitution as courageously in the halls of Congress as they did on the field of battle.

But, Pat, the elite hacks who run the PA Republican Party told William Russell and conservative activists essentially –- GET LOST!
A March 23 Washington Times article reported Gleason admitted “he doesn’t care about winning the congressional seat when he chastised Mr. Russell for running too hard in 2008. Mr. Gleason whined, I lost a state legislature race in 2008 because Russell was surging in the polls and Murtha turned out his forces to come out for the Democrats.”
This sort of corrupt, backroom dealing by arrogant party elites is exactly what has weakened the Republican Party in recent years.
