Obama: Stimulus led to big refunds By: Eamon Javers April 10, 2010 08:51 AM EDT
President Barack Obama used his weekly radio and internet address Saturday to remind Americans that about one third of last years mammoth stimulus bill was made up of tax cuts and those cuts are having an impact just in time for tax day, April 15.
So far, Americans who have filed their taxes have discovered that the average refund is up nearly ten percent this year to an all-time high of about $3,000, Obama said. This is due in large part to the Recovery Act.
Obama said his tax cuts have already provided more than $160 billion in relief for families and businesses, and nearly $100 billion of that directly into the pockets of working Americans.
Obama singled out the Making Work Pay tax cut, which typically involves a maximum of $400 for working individuals and $800 for working married couples, the American Opportunity Credit of up to $2,500 for college tuition, and the first time home buyer credit of $8,000.
And Obama took the opportunity to tout his health care bill. The new health reform law includes the largest middle class tax cut for health care in history, he said. And once its implemented; millions of Americans will finally be able to purchase quality, affordable care and the security and peace of mind that comes with it.

I hardly believe this as millions have been unemployed for well over a year and as a result, they get no refunds if all they have as income is unemployment.
Hardly...BO.
its up because of no work...
Super, mega, ultra BULL OBAMA.
This guy makes a septic tank seem like a perfume bottle.
I thought that the administration lowered the witholding early in 2009 which I would have figured to lower the average rebate.
I imagine the real statistics will come out in May.
Lies come in many forms, especially when talking Obambi -— Refunds, doesn’t he mean handouts to Obama zombies?
Don’t know but the report is said to have came when he was at his unicorn ranch.
Really? SHOW ME THE MONEY!
So let me get this straight...
When Bush cut taxes it drove us into unsustainable debt.
Obama does it and it’s manna from heaven?
Job losses as far as the eye can see........but that $400 made up for all the lost income.
And also, that $13 a week raise for those who did have employment.......oh yes!!!!
**Nothing has changed with our tax status this year and we paid more then ever.**
I’m hearing this from just about Everyone. Der FUHRER’s “TAX CUT”, was a REDUCTION in WITHHOLDINGS. They took LESS MONEY from the Paycheck..and
SURPRISE!!!!
Less REFUND, OR ... Gotta write a CHECK to the IRS.
It is the single biggest Uncle Sam Freebie Payout of the year for these leeches. Under the right circumstances, i.e., claiming all your babies from the multiple 'baby daddies" that he or them aren't living with you (of course you aren't married for God's sake)...this 'paycheck' amounts to several thousand dollars. It's that trip to wherever, it's that new big screen, it's that brand new (old) hoopty. It's lottery tickets, it's dope, it's new threads to whore around in, it's so much more - only not for something like getting an education or buying clothes for a frickin job, or learning a trade or anything like that. It's just a yearly payment for voting for tyrants like Obama
You know that they don’t write checks. They don’t have any money. Didn’t pay any taxes anyway - they didn’t owe anything.
I have heard many say they are paying taxes when they usually receive a refund.
Un-freekin’ believable..except for the totally ignorant.
In my department at work there is a 26-year-old single woman who earns upwards of $60,000 a year because she has ginned the system and is a fast talker and good at what she does.
She bought her first home in 2009 and got “refunded” to her the amount of eight thousand dollars in redistributed taxpayers’ money from the IRS. She was ecstatic at her “good fortune”.
This was because, under the “first time home buyer” stimulus, instead of buying a home at foreclosure sale prices being perceived as a reward for hard work and a realization of the American dream, it has now been determined to be a terrible burden.
When we bought our home twenty five years ago we were put through the ringer and had to practically prove sainthood in order to get approved for the mortgage.
Here we can see the strategy at work, where government pushers turn middle class Americans into addicts for entitlement freebies. Just as it did for the welfare classes.
As an added note—I checked the statute for the first time home buyer incentive program, and for purposes of eligibility for the eight thousand dollar tax gift, a “first time” home buyer is defined as anyone who has not purchased a home during the past three years!
