Russias Sukhoi aircraft makers have brought their latest fifth-generation jet to an airfield near Zhukovski southeast of Moscow for further tests. The maiden flight was on the 29th of January and lasted 47 minutes. The plane is a computerized fighter bomber boasting cutting-edge radar and fly-by-wire systems and remarkable stealth capabilities. The latter are the result of composite materials in the design. Together with upgraded fourth-generation jets, such fighters will form the backbone of this countrys Air Force in the coming years

The T-50 prototype parked next to a SU-30 that served as a chase plane (for those who claim it is the same aircraft)
It would be interesting if India could get Israeli assistance for the SU-50 like it did for the SU-30MKI.
Bypassing the code is one of the stated reasons by the USA
Right now, Israel wants Russia to do something about Iran and they are not. That is why the last visit by Netanyahu was not so friendly.
I can see your reason.
What is the guarantee that Italy or another NATO country would return the aircraft in the event of a crisis???
They will ,by threat. It is amazing what countries will do when threatened.
Anyways the work will probably be done at Aviano air base where it is already secure. Aviano houses B-61 bombs.
I agree.
With Israel partnering on the T-50, it would be 3 times the plane it would be if Russia did it alone.
And, candidly, the USA under Obama is showing itself to be an unreliable ally to Israel.
Russia links and supports crap regimes in the Middle East (Iran, etc) as a counterbalance to the USA and Israel. If Israel and Russia joined (a much better aliance for Russia), those threats would wither on the vine.
Threats from whom??? Italy or any other country would have a veto on third-party equipment being shipped into their territory, even if its to a military base. Transit delays/sanctions have been commmon in a number of countries. The Brits refused to provide spares for American equipment used by the US military.
Anyways, Aviano Air Base is the logical place to repair the f-35s
Don’t know-too much of a trust deficit to overcome.
Chances are Israel will operate far more F-35s than Italy (which already has Eurofighter commitments). So it doesn’t make sense to house a maintenance facility there. Most modern contracts look for commercial facilities
But the US is afraid that the Israelis will gain access of the source code. That is why the U.S. wants the planes in Italy than Israel.
The only way that can be prevented is if you have US personnel/joint custody around the aircraft at all times. Which is close to impossible. The US did that the Saudi F-15E fleet for a while in the early 90s.
I do not think that Lockheed Martin was not interested in joint crews.
The Pentagon is not interested in “joint crews” either. I think that Lockheed and the Pentagon want to keep everything under their control.
