WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says Virginia's governor made "an unacceptable omission" when he proclaimed it Confederate History Month without mentioning slavery.

"I don't think you can understand the Confederacy and the Civil War unless you understand slavery," said Obama, the nation's first black president.

Obama has NEVER been in a position in his life, where Keeping your Mouth Shut is the best statement.

Come to think of it, it’s possible he could be related to someone who sold Africans into slavery.

He’s absolutely right. Its unacceptable to omit out of the history books such things like:

1. Muslems sold blacks into slavery and are still engaged in slavery in the year 2010.

2. Black people sold black people into slavery, not just white people.

3. Freed slaves owned slaves themselves. (Hint: Black people had no problem owning other black people).

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander!

"I don't think you can understand the Confederacy and the Civil War War of Northern Aggression unless you understand . . ."

There, fixed it.

Yes. And Obama has claimed “slave heritage” by proxy of his family in a speech before.

Roger Ebert can likely make the same claim.

Doesn’t make it anything except opportunist.

Of course he’s getting to this late. He gets to it late so that the media can bring it up again and the story will linger for a few more days.

This has got to be in the Alinsky playbook somewhere.

There is still a slave trade in the modern world found in Islamic countries.

Why doesn’t our bowing president ever call THAT out?

How do you think Islams large projects were built? The had a thirst far greater than America.....
And keep in mind all the white slaves they kept throughout the “crusades”, (the time when the Christians went to retake and protect what was theirs).....

Obam? What a card player...

Did Obama mention that his ancestors ON BOTH SIDES were slavers?

His Muslim ancestors in Kenya were big-time slavers in the 19th century. And his white ancestors were slave owners.

Actually, I think the Muslim African slave-takers and slave-sellers were far worse, morally, than the Americans who used slaves on their plantations here. I’m not excusing either. But being a slaver-taker and killer is worse than being a slave-owner, IMHO.

Darfur only matters when a Republican is in the White House. No one has mentioned it since Obama got elected.

Be sure not to mention the role of the Democrat Party in slavery, secession and Jim Crow segregation, though.

“”I don’t think you can understand the Confederacy and the Civil War unless you understand slavery,” said Obama, the nation’s first black president.”

Obama, like most, doesn’t have a clue about slavery or history.

2. Black people sold black people into slavery, not just white people.

Something the "once we were KINGS" crowd omits in their version of his-story. Not everyone in Africa was King. Some served the King.

I’m not much on re-fighting the Civil War reasons etc, but wasn’t Virginia not part of the Southern “slave states” that initially succeeded but instead, succeeded only after the war started?

You, sir, are correct. Virginia was in the second wave of states to secede from the Union. Seven states seceded before Lincoln actually took office in March 1861, but Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina did not secede until after the first shots were fired at Ft. Sumter.

An easy way to remember the difference between secede and succeed: None of the states that seceded succeeded. They all ended up back in the Union. :)

Obama is half-Kenyan and half-white. What does he know about slavery?
