Glenn Beck and radio pals Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere rattled down the list of potential Republican nominees for President in 2012 this morning, and they had some bad news for the Tea Party movement: Sarah Palin probably wont run, Ron Paul is still and long shot, and Mitt Romney, as of now, is the GOPs best bet.
While Gray and Burguiere are harsh to most of the candidates, Beck spreads the love around. He tells his co-hosts that he likes Palin but doesnt think she will run, Bobby Jindal but doesnt think he has the charisma, and Congressman Paul but doesnt think America is ready for him. Then, at the bottom of the pile, he finds Mitt Romney:
"I have to tell you that Mitt Romney could be the only guy that could win, and I dont know if he could because I think that Americans are going to be I mean, this country is going to be in deep trouble by 2012, and the next term, if its not decided this term, the next term will decide our fate. Then I hope that Americans are ready for an adult and are ready for hard news."
Its a strange, possibly sad conclusion from someone who had called Romney out for flirting with socialism, but ultimately Beck was trying to determine who could win, not who he thought should. If Beck was playing process of elimination, which he clearly was, its hard to refute his conclusion that Romney is the least likely candidate to crash and burn in a general election, if only for being a conservative from the most liberal state of America and having moderate successes like universal health care under his belt. Or and this one is for you conspiracy theorists out there maybe Beck is intentionally downplaying the Republican candidates ability to success so as to clear the brush and become the reluctant right-wing candidate by default. After all, he is the second-most popular human being in America. (Link to a Harris poll: Glenn Beck is the second most popular television personality in America second only to Oprah Winfrey.)
Listen to the segment below:
Why the personal attack out of the blue? What set you off?
Catholics are a solid Democrat constituency, Jindal can help break that historical pattern if he can become a national figure.
We need Catholic public figure that can help lead Catholics to support the Republican party, that is also a little benefit that we get from Cao (to a smaller degree).
But does hbe have HAIR???
You are pushing the wrong scum bag when you try to sell Romney here.
Dear Mr. Beck. Take your silly @ss RINO and go away.
Thank you.
She's a TBM - you mess with ONE of them; and the whole HIVE comes after you!
As long as thinking people can keep scumbags like Mitt Romney away from power then we have a fighting chance.
I’m not living AGAIN under socialized medicine.
When I was a child we lived behind the iron curtain and seeing the medical care there, I’ll die first before doing that.
You have an excellent point about it giving the idea credibility. Things like this remark (full endorsement or not) by Beck is one of the reasons I have been concerned about Beck’s following and the blind trust some have in him.
If Beck really supports Romney, then it is easy to start out as testing the waters, then if there is any traction, he will get bolder about Romney. And I don’t believe it will stop there. Once you have a devoted following, some will follow you all the way to “Jonestown”, the test of your charisma is how many.
LOL.
When Beck provides information (facts) about the lefts and their agenda there is no one better.
When he gets into his amorphous philosophizing I just turn him off.
I don’t need a leader who believes he’s the ONE. We have someone in the White House with those same delusions.
I am completely capable of thinking for myself.
When he gets into his amorphous philosophizing I just turn him off.

I will bet money that aspect is going to take over more and more of his show.
Oh, stop being such a drama queen.
It was a guess, not an accusation. And if you hadn't sent such a nasty FReepmail, I might have said something nicer.
All you're doing now is making it appear that it was an educated guess.
"Bigot" is an out-and-out accusation.
If your definition of a bigot is someone who can't stand leftists like Mitt Romney, then I'm happy to wear your little label.
I think folks should in this day and age to take time to try to under stand the gest of a conversation.
We have been condition to react to those who choose to frame things in such a way as to poison the water instead of being our own person and put our own pieces of the puzzle in the proper fit.
The oppostition gets a way with a lot because the masses in general who do no homework but buy what ever is being sold.
We should work hard to try not getting caught up into that same trap!
If not we will miss a lot of good things out there because of spinmeisters!
Beck had an excellent show yesterday with David Barton and his vast knowledge of American History and our founding fathers.
David showed how in the early 20 the Progressive (such as Pres Woodrow Wilson & gang) started changing our school books to dilute the knowledge of the founding fathers even to the point of removing that they were Christians and our nation was set up under Judeo Christian laws.
The Progressive purpose was to paint founding fathers as deist.
No where else is this stuff being given the light of day so much has been shown so America can be enlighten and share with their neighbors.
This election should be about those who embrace the founding fathers principles which made this nation great
Stop being a one sided bigot!
Oh, yes, the bigotry card. My disapproval of Mormonism is not a secret to everyone but my dislike of Romney has nothing to do with his Mormonism but his politics. I have voted for Mormons in the past because I agreed with them politically. I would vote against Harry Reid if I could vote in Nevada. Does that make me an anti-Mormon bigot because I dislike his politics (as I assume you do)? I most likely would not vote for Mike Huckabee because of his politics. Does that make me, an evangelical Christian, a bigot against Christianity?
Would you vote for a politician who you agreed with right down the line politically but who is a committed Scientologist? If you even hesitated on answering this question, does that make you bigoted against Scientologists?
N O R O M N E Y
I don’t know what all that is supposed to be about, but this nation is under threat from Mitt Romney and we need to save our nation from his evil.
Glenn Beck was promoting that evil on his show, and he dismissed Romney’s nightmare, (Palin) in a single sentence.

LOL - {screeeeech!} What is it with Romneybots and the screeching?
Spot on, and correct.
