Glenn Beck: ‘Mitt Romney Could Be The Only Guy That Could Win’ In 2012
Mediate.com ^ | April 8th, 2010 | Frances Martel

Glenn Beck and radio pals Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere rattled down the list of potential Republican nominees for President in 2012 this morning, and they had some bad news for the Tea Party movement: Sarah Palin probably won’t run, Ron Paul is still and long shot, and Mitt Romney, as of now, is the GOP’s best bet.

While Gray and Burguiere are harsh to most of the candidates, Beck spreads the love around. He tells his co-hosts that he likes Palin but doesn’t think she will run, Bobby Jindal but doesn’t think he has the charisma, and Congressman Paul but doesn’t think America is ready for him. Then, at the bottom of the pile, he finds Mitt Romney:

"I have to tell you that Mitt Romney could be the only guy that could win, and I don’t know if he could because I think that Americans are going to be I mean, this country is going to be in deep trouble by 2012, and the next term, if it’s not decided this term, the next term will decide our fate. Then I hope that Americans are ready for an adult and are ready for hard news."

It’s a strange, possibly sad conclusion from someone who had called Romney out for “flirting with socialism,” but ultimately Beck was trying to determine who could win, not who he thought should. If Beck was playing process of elimination, which he clearly was, it’s hard to refute his conclusion that Romney is the least likely candidate to crash and burn in a general election, if only for being a conservative from the most liberal state of America and having moderate successes like universal health care under his belt. Or– and this one is for you conspiracy theorists out there– maybe Beck is intentionally downplaying the Republican candidates’ ability to success so as to clear the brush and become the reluctant right-wing candidate by default. After all, he is the second-most popular human being in America. (Link to a Harris poll: Glenn Beck is the second most popular television personality in America… second only to Oprah Winfrey.)

Ah, thanks for that, I knew the emigrated but wasn’t aware of the details. they did stay though, didn’t they?

I was shocked the first time I heard Jindal speak. I was expecting a high Indian voice and out comes this Cajun drawl. LOL.

The mother definitely stayed and worked for the state of Louisiana, but the father I’m not sure about where he eventually ended up, or his citizenship status.

I have looked into this stuff, but it is hard to trace, Jindal hasn’t triggered the rectal exams yet.

Duncan Hunter? What executive experience does he have?None, but that didn't stop Obama. Hunter was also elected in 1980, which means he has far more legislative experience than Obama could have hoped for, but that didn't matter.

I did see this, “Interestingly enough, Jindal’s parents continue to be devout Hindus, even prominent as pillars of their community in Baton Rouge.” so probably the dad stayed here. (The source isn’t very good).

If you have been paying attention to the “natural born citizen” debate, you will notice that there are some who claim that a true natural born citizen must have two parents who were natural born citizens. Neither the law nor the courts will support such a claim, of course.

Would you come to that same conclusion if they were both evangelicals? That’s a rhetorical question of course.

No need for it to be rhetorical. Yes I would probably come to the same conclusion. And I am an Evangelical. I have no use for Huck other than I kinda like his bass playing.

That is odd. Jindal is a Christian and I am pretty sure I heard him mention at least one of his parents was. I could be wrong though.

Looks I have a new research project.

I saw that, and I am also aware that the the law and courts do not (and have not, iirc) supported that.

MrR, could you clarify this?

Ummm...born in the US to legal immigrants is not the same as ‘natural born’.

It has been a while since I looked into him, but it isn’t easy, many of the sources seem pretty lame, so it is hard to find truly bankable facts.

Maybe some people will get a clue why I don’t particularly care for Glenn Beck now!

I disagree and so does the law and the courts. There is no legal precedence FOR and several AGAINST your position. SIGH.

A Natural Born citizen, born in the US, is eligible according to both common law and legal precedence. Sorry.

For the record, I WAS NOT the one who said it, E forgot the comma, and was talking TO me about who posted that comment about Fred’s wife.

I know you wouldn't say anything like that. ;-)

I think a Romney-Palin or Palin-Romney ticket would be great. They both make up for what the other lacks.

Personally, I'd just as soon not see the name "Romney" anywhere on the ticket. We need good conservative leadership, not more of the same we've been suffering over the past few years.
