FORT COLLINS, Colo. First-term Rep. Betsy Markey is convinced that once people learn what's in President Barack Obama's new health care overhaul law, they'll support it.
But it's not a message she was eager to carry in person to her constituents in Republican-leaning eastern Colorado. During Congress' two-week Easter break, she reserved any discussion of health care reform for conference calls, an op-ed piece and an appearance at a small-town Rotary Club all small-bore outreach.
After the raucous, angry town halls of last summer, Markey steered clear of massive gatherings.
She was not alone. Tough votes for Obama's health care plan have further complicated the re-election prospects of dozens of already vulnerable freshman and second-term Democrats. There's even a chance the party could lose control of one or both houses in the midterm elections.

In districts and states where the overhaul was most controversial, town-hall meetings have been replaced with tightly controlled business roundtables and other gatherings with voters.
In Nevada, first-term Democratic Rep. Dina Titus defended her vote for the health care bill in a newspaper piece she co-wrote and in a meeting with female doctors. Facing a vigorous GOP challenge from a Republican physician, she acknowledged treading carefully.
"It's more of a teaching tour than a selling tour," she said of her recent appearances.
Republicans dismiss the notion that voters opposed to the new law can be sold on it. They equate the overhaul to a "government takeover" of health care and blame it on one-party arrogance. The theme is central to House Republicans' plan to cast the GOP as the party that will listen to what voters want, not pass bills the people oppose.

Meaning SEIU thug-controlled meetings with political profiling at the door.
Now we need to smash them like cockroaches.
I don’t want to see them on the run. Not good enough!
I want them politically DEAD!
My congressman was quoted right after the vote as saying he “couldn’t wait to come home” and tell us all how wonderful this legislation is going to be. Well, he still has yet to speak to his constituency on the matter. However, I notice that on his website, he has a sign-up form for his next “tele-town hall meeting,” no date scheduled. The man is too ashamed and afraid to face his constituents, so he’s going to hide behind a telephone (maybe).
“Now we need to smash them like cockroaches.”
Yessir, yessir. If they run, they will just catch it between the shoulder blades.
:-)
I’m in a blue part of Ohio, my rep, Betty the commie Sutton is in no danger. However, in the next district over, John the sellout whore Boccieri is definately scared. Boccieri is already running ads thanking himself for voting for the healthcare reform. Boccieri’s district is much more purple-red.
He’s toast.
Obadiah: I want them politically DEAD!
ncfool: Now we need to smash them like cockroaches.
AMEN!
“I want them politically DEAD!”
Well, Tom Coburn said he was going to block appointments of those that lose their jobs in November. Coburn is a tough talking stand up guy, right?
Oh, wait, that’s the same Coburn that said Nancy the Nazi Pelosi was a nice woman. Yeah, that tough talk lasted a long time. Way to soil your pants Coburn.
I don’t trust Republicans, it’s just that I trust Democrats even less.
That’s right. The sensible roaches scatter when the light is turned on. Unlike this one which sticks around to scare you... and get swatted.
Gifford is in hiding in Tucson too. We are going to toast her buns in November! Also support J.D. and Arapio.
Stay mad, stay informed, keep informing others and make sure people always remember to fire every Democrat for at least the next thirty years.
Bookmarked because I need to copy those cockroaches LOLOL!
In the voices of the Daleks (From Dr. Who):
Exterminate!! Exterminate!!
I think I might just put ‘em on a t-shirt, too!
If they hear us, they can't come up with answers that don't make themselves look like idiots. Sorry about the double negative.
Alternate: If they hear us, they come up with answers that make themselves look like idiots.
I just noticed all those roaches are wearing 0bama T-shirts!! LOL.
I want them politically DEAD!
And, their government pensions and cadilac healthcare revoked!
Markey’s toast. All her efforts amount to whistling past the grave yard. All the SEIU money in the world won’t help her now that it’s abundantly apparent that she’s nothing more than a shill for the SEIU and the Obamunists.
She has treated the voters in her district with unbelievable disdain and arrogance, consistently dodging them and habitually lying about everything all the time.
Her true constituency are the SEIU and the Emily’s List bunch in Denver. Those are the only ones she gives the time of day.
My guess is that her margin of defeat will be significant.
I’m a delegate to the 4th CD Republican Assembly, which will determine which of Markey’s opponents will be on the primary ballot. I’ll be doing everything in my power to defeat her, including making very sizable donations to her eventual opponent.
I think the policy now is to not really answer the question or address the issue, but to try to dazzle the constituency with a lot of words. Obama did that with the woman named Doris who asked about the rise in taxes, and I think the congresspeople are doing the same. A bunch of snake oil salesmen.
