WASHINGTON (AFP) Republican Senator John McCain, whose "maverick" breaks with his party won him media acclaim and powered his 2008 White House run, now rejects the moniker, according to Newsweek magazine.
The Arizona lawmaker, looking to thwart a primary challenge from a conservative Republican former congressman, played down his history of working with Democrats on issues like overhauling US immigration policy, curbing big money influence in politics, or fighting climate change.
"I never considered myself a maverick," Newsweek quoted him as saying. "I consider myself a person who serves the people of Arizona to the best of his abilities."

I voted for McCain in 2008, but he is an unreliable Republican. I have great respect for his military service to our nation, but I have little regard for him as a politician.

"I never considered myself a maverick," Newsweek quoted him as saying. "I consider myself a person who serves the people of Arizona to the best of his abilities."Self serving BS (he will say anything to keep his job) and I very much doubt that the good people of Arizona are going to buy it!
I say his past actions will speak FAR louder than anything he might say at this point.

I was born at night, but it wasn’t last night
I clearly remember this old fool prattling on about being “Maverick” during his 2008 campaign and preening as if he was Top Gun

Even in George Will's Washington Post column it says;
QUOTE Chief Justice John Roberts said to the Federal attorney defending McCain Fiengold: "If we accept your constitutional argument, we're establishing a precedent that you yourself say would extend to banning the book" -- a hypothetical 500-page book containing one sentence that said "vote for" a particular candidate. UNQUOTE
Does anyone in Arizona or anywhere else in the country outside of the LEFT, really believe that John McCain should be considered "a person who serves the people of Arizona to the best of his abilities."
Do any of these people really want to support the author of the McCain Feingold attempt to crush Political Free Speech ?

I always was amused at the notion that it was good for someone to be a “maverick.” I think that if you look it up, you will find that a maverick is a wild stallion who breaks into a herd and MISLEADS it!

He used to be a “maverick”. Now most everyone is hoping that he will become a “gelding”.

"I never considered myself a maverick," Newsweek quoted him as saying. "I consider myself a person who serves the people of Arizona to the best of his abilities."100% pure bullshit!
Do a Google search on the words McCain and maverick. 1.6 million hits. Most of the recent hits are, of course, about him denying his maverick status. But jump to page 10 or so and take a look.
McPain is running to the right as fast as he can go.
