Currently, an 18.4 cent tax on each gallon (3.79 liters) of gasoline sold in the United States is deposited in the trust fund, which is perpetually at risk of going broke, largely because of increased fuel efficiency in cars. This lie pops up constantly. While the mileage of vehicles continues to climb, the numbers of cars on the roads in our nation has doubled and tripled.
Diversion is the problem. Hiway funds are not being spend on highways. States divert the funds for other uses, then promote toll booths to cover their treachery.

"The government on Tuesday said prices likely would average $2.92 per gallon this summer, up from $2.44 last summer."Under $3.00? Not a functional brain cell in congress.

The real joke was when folks started jumping on public transportation...they were making too much money and it killed their grants...and the drivers had to work harder...heh, heh, heh...
Then, that screwed up the gas pumps and less tax was coming in....
Dear Govt....Please....just go away....

The level of ignorance in the Congress is beyond embarrassing.

A transportation tax on refined oil would likely be passed on to consumers, Ya think? These people MUST be stopped.

If they do this, the money must go to paying down the debt. They’ll just keep spending and driving us in the hole further.

Where I live they told us to conserve water. We did and the City had reduced revenue so they raised the water rates. Can’t win.

Here we go again. Not a tax on
imported oil, because that would boost American jobs and increase demand we produce our own.
Nope, a tax on the movement of people and goods and on staying alive in a less than tropical climate.
Keep in mind any fuel tax is passed on to the consumer, either when they buy fuel, or when they buy anything else which has been transported (food, clothing, consumer goods, etc.) or which requires fuel to produce (food, fuel, etc.).
The increase will not just be felt at the pump, but at every place you buy anything not produced within a day's walk.

If they do this, the cost will be transferred to us, making it harder to get to work. The US is a big place. Unless they stick the entire population in some megacities and force us all to pay for public transportation, the fact is that a lot of us have no ACCESS to public transportation because the government deems it to expensive, so it will just spread the misery around rather than the “wealth”.

I agree. My point was to take any new taxes and pay down our debt. Either that or no new taxes to support their pet projects.

I know that your point was, but THIS congress, pay DOWN debt? With their track record?? Wishful thinking.

Nope, nothing to do with the economy tanking causing people to drive less, federal spending going through the roof on people leaning on shovels next to roads or more of the gas tax being used for public transportation funding. It's all the greenies' fault for their hybrids.

If I hear the word “tax” one more time today, I am going to burst. These guys have to be removed, pronto. Not sure we can wait till November. Get the hook out and get them off stage.
Meanwhile, I see where in NJ the scum Malendez is fighting a recall petition saying the US constitution does not allow for that. Hey BOZO, you are elected in NJ and the NJ constitution does allow for recalls. Good bye and good riddance.
