Blankenship gave what I considered to be straightforward answers. He defended himself and the company against some reckless comments that have been made by some politicians. Toward the end of the interview, pompous ass Hunt attempts to restate a prior question as a statement that misrepresents Blankenship's response to the question. Blankenship calls him on it and then reiterates his actual answer to the prior question.

Did you watch the interview? That pompous little p**** of a reporter really pissed me off. When he tried to mischaracterize the prior answer in his closing “question”, my turrett’s syndrome kicked in and I yelled “BULLs**t”. I really respected Blankenship’s composure in his response, and LOVED the way he called Hunt out on it.

Fox News has been going more and more Liberal.....anti-business, pro-illegal, pro-terrorist...and even slandering people like Geert Wilders.

Too many think Fox is “conservative”....which is absolute nuts. Just watch their coverage over the past two years, and you can see the drift to the left....

“this mine will be closed down and more people unemployed.”

Well it’s not exactly a good example of a well run business.

I’m rather fed up with this demonizing of the mine operator. Fox should be ashamed of themselves. This concentration on the citations is totally unjustified. The fact is that MSHA inspectors visit these mines daily and they have to justify their existence by writing these up on a daily basis. The overwhelming majority of the citations, I am sure, are minor in nature.

The thing that Fox and the other networks are ignoring is the weather conditions. I’ve heard that there was a mean thunderstorm going on at the time. It sounds like Sago all over, where lightening penetrated the ground into the old blocked off workings.

The other thing that is being ignored by the media is how useless the new MSHA required communication system has become. The explosion obviously has wiped it out.

Massey Energy is a union busting company, pays miners much more than union shops. Blankenship is a heavy contributor to the Republican party in the state and nationwide. No wonder he is being demonized. He recently had a one-on-one with that Moonbat, Robert Kennedy on mining v. the environment. Blankenship clearly cleaned his clock.

We have a President vowing to bankrupt the coal industry.

Mining is inherently a dangerous business.

I’m have no doubt that Obama and Rahm are going to use this accident to justify new crippling regulations.

I was horrified at Jonathan Hunt’s demeanor and questions in that interview, and sent in a couple of comments to the Fox News website complaining about it. If we (rightfully so) complained about Katie Couric’s biased interview questions of Sarah Palin, we should also complain about Jonathan Hunt’s biased questioning of the mine owner.

I’m not a fan of the ambush-style of interview that is becoming popular, as it doesn’t end up eliciting and answers or news of any sort. I just thought Jonathan came off looking like an ass, and I won’t be tuning into anymore of his segments anymore because of it.

...on another menu perhaps, but since this explosion I have been asking myself a question that I can’t answer..maybe someone here can give me a sane response.

In recent mine mishaps we’ve all watched over a tragic few days, the effort to dig (or bore) these breathing or rescue
borings.......why aren’t these done before hand?...and capped, or fixed so that any future mishaps can be dealt with faster? It is always the gases that hold up rescue attempts and kill....why can they be vented? As the mine goes deeper and wines it’s way along, venting should be done.
I only ask because I don’t know, is it the cost?

Big difference between Sago and this one. Sago had around 300 feet of cover and Upper Branch has around 1,100 feet of cover.

As far as the communication system goes, IMSHA wants a hardened system that is “double looped” to withstand an event such as this. The state of WV only requires tracking to a section in the mine and the fed wants precise tracking of an individual. That technology is not commericially viable at this time.

If anything they should be looking at the “tone at the top” at Massey. ICG is Massey light. Ran by ex-Massey executives as well. JMHO
