True conservatism best for America
Washington Times ^ | April 7, 2010 | Solomon Yue

America does not have a legal-immigration problem.

America does have a problem with illegals, and Obama's amnesty, or "path to citizenship," would undermine the rule of law and make it harder for jobless Americans to compete with up to an estimated 20 million newly legalized illegal aliens.

It also is consistent for the GOP to oppose Mr. Obama's amnesty as it was for many in the GOP to oppose former President George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain's "path to citizenship."

...the Republican national platform calls for "enforcing the rule of law at the border and throughout the nation" and says, "We oppose amnesty. The rule of law suffers if government policies encourage or reward illegal activity."

... true conservatives understand that amnesty corrupts our political system with an unspoken quid pro quo — politicians and their political parties pay for the votes of illegal aliens with amnesty. During the pro-amnesty rally in 2006, one sign said it all: "Today we march, tomorrow we vote," If those illegal aliens vote for the same corrupt political system that they left behind, America can't afford them.

Finally, conservatism must unite all four legs of this freedom chair — social, fiscal and national-security conservatives and the tea-party patriots — for the amnesty fight.

Social conservatives should worry that any undermining of the rule of law will destroy the moral foundation of this republic.

For fiscal conservatives, the rule of law guarantees our economic freedom. Without it, capitalism fails, which means big government's further intrusions.

To national-security conservatives, enforcing the rule of law means border security, which is essential to our national security and sovereignty.

To tea-party patriots, undermining the rule of law destroys the Constitution's underpinning.

High levels of immigration is undermining conservatism. What is conservatism if not love of our culture, traditions and liberties? In so far as high levels of immigration displaces americans and their communities, and makes assimilation harder, it in anti-conservative. In so far as immigrants tend to vote left and thier children do so more because of the infection of cultural Marxism, conservatism is undermined. In so far as, for the first time ever, we face immigration from a revanchist and irridentist neighbor, the very survival of the nation is at stake. Illegals are just the most eggregious aspect. The fact is that the left is using immigration to elect a new people.

“Solomon Yue is 100% right on with what he says in this piece!”

What is really annoying is that Steele, Gingrich, McCain, Graham & too many others...ALL GOP leaders refuse to follow their own party platform.

If you pay them, they will come.

Focus control on business hires. Seriesly business does not want to reduce this hugh problem so politicians will not go there. They rather flap their lips and hope to score election points.

Excellent piece from Yue....and the GOP needs to follow this blueprint.

Unfortunately, we have too many in the GOP who outright support Illegal Aliens (McCain, Bush)...and another too many who are soft, or, inconsistent on Illegals (Palin, Rubio, Gingrich). These types of GOP cost the party support....as conservatives will not waste a vote on a GOP that is pro-illegal/anti-American (2008 Presidential election a perfect example....taking Illegal Alien issue off the table)

Exactly....we can deport all the Illegals....once you start deporting Illegals en masse....the other illegals will start leaving...they will not want deportation on their record if they plan to return as a legal immigrant

People who use the “We can’t deport all the illegal aliens” comment.....are really supporters of Illegal Alien Amnesty. This is just their “code words” to stay in political office, or, to keep listeners/viewers from flocking away in droves from their shows.

Yes, we can deport all Illegals.....and, it would be easier, and a lot cheaper, than most think....

My thing is that if we are going to have an immigration law we ought to enforce it!

What we are currently doing is slapping those who are working to come here legally in the face and yelling YOU ARE STUPID at them!

High levels of immigration is undermining conservatism.

False, or at least incomplete.

Illegals who have no desire to actually immigrate, but only to find work and send money home, are a problem.

L Multi-cultural immigration, where immigrants simply bring their culture into the USA intact, is a problem.

"Melting pot" immigration of those who come here in order to leave their old country behind and become American is something every true conservative should applaud!
