Meat-Free Mondays, forbidding window advertising on Muni buses and closing a loophole in the city's plastic bag ban -- all in a day's work for the Board of Supervisors.
The board on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution by Supervisor Sophie Maxwell declaring every Monday "Vegetarian Day" or "Veg Day," which encourages restaurants, grocery stores and schools to offer more vegetarian fare.
The only thing is, it doesn't actually require anything and there is no enforcement capability, just like other resolutions the board passes.
Maxwell said it was important to draw attention to the relationship between diet and climate change, citing a 2009 World Bank report that found farm animals and their byproducts are responsible for at least 51 percent of annual worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
And it's not like San Francisco's exactly going out on a limb here. After all, Ghent, Belgium has a weekly vegetarian day, and Takoma Park, Md., has "Takoma Park Veg Week."

This is not what Sophie had in mind.
I’ve said it before. Marxists don’t stop until they completely enslave. Marxists will tell you what to eat, when to go to the bathroom, what you can wear, how to dress yourself.
Those people are crazy.
Since she is so eager to draw links between vegetarianism and global warming, two liberal causes, can she tell us the link between global warming and homosexual marriage? The link between affirrmative action and gays in the military? The link between socialized medicine and sex without any moral judgements being made? The link between abortion rights and enviro-extremists?
This could be fun, to link up various seemingly unrelated liberal causes.
We Catholics used to have a meat-free day: Friday.
Yet, these freaks absolutely hate the Catholic Church.
I note that they want to have their meat free day on a different day, as far from Friday as they can.
Actually, those things you named are probably (really) related to each other.
Must be hell for the Homosexuals not to be able to smoke any sausage on mondays.

Sounds like she intended to give Catholics a poke in the eye by naming Monday the meatless day rather than Friday. Just one more reason not to visit SF.
Vegetarian - An old Sioux word meaning “lousy hunter”
SF = forbid meat, plastic bags, etc, etc...but NO PROBLEMO getting a Green card!
How hard is it to get a black market green card in San Francisco?

I propose to designate Bacon Monday in SF’s honor.
Strips of bacon for breakfast, Clubs with bacon for lunch and some kind of bacon entree [suggestions?] for dinner.
Who’s with me?
I’d be advertising “Mo Meat Mondays!” if’n I had a SF restaurant....
Btw- that Friday thing was a deal between the Vatican and fisherman to help move fish before the weekend.
Let me also add that Takoma Park Md [in suburban Washington DC] is a nuclear-free zone. I always feel safe there knowing that if the nation’s capital is nuked, Takoma Park will be spared.
Go to the comments sections. Most of the responders had very, very critical words for the supes. I guess the average SF resident is not quite as crazy as their pols and rag-scribblers.
Thank goodness they don’t have anything more critical to deal with...
Meatloaf with bacon topping.
