Disappointment as US high school students snub 'lesbian-friendly prom'
Senior prom fell far short of the rite of passage Constance McMillen was hoping for when she began a legal battle to challenge a ban on same-sex dates.

The 18-year-old lesbian student said that she was one of only seven students to show up at a private party chaperoned by school officials. She said the rest of her peers went to another private event where she wasn't invited.
"It was not the prom I imagined," she said. "It really hurts my feelings. These are still people who I've gone through school with, even teachers who loved me before this all started. I've never been a bad student and I don't feel like I deserve to be put through this."
Her case drew a national spotlight after she and the American Civil Liberties Union challenged an Itawamba County School District rule that banned same-sex prom dates and a requirement that only male students wear tuxedos. Proms are parties held for students, generally in their senior year in high school.
The ACLU sent a demand letter to Superintendent Teresa McNeece in February, saying the rules against same-sex prom dates and girls wearing tuxedos violated Miss McMillen's constitutional rights. The district responded by withdrawing its sponsorship and cancelling the April 2 event.
In an apparent compromise, school district officials said parents would organise a private event with school chaperones that Miss McMillen could attend.

Perhaps, perhaps not. Given what I’ve learned thus far regarding Christ and His ministry, I wouldn’t expect my position to change because my kids get older.
But, like I said, I’ve been wrong before.
I doubt I would ever want my kids participating in sending seven kids to the wrong place and withholding the location of the real party. “Mean” is not a Christian value.

I beg your pardon? What attack? I asked a question.
Show her to the door, with police escort if necessary.
SnakeDoc
OH NO, it’s not like Constance is a PARTY POOPER or anything?
I’m asking Quix over to take a look at this. He’s a devout Christian I trust very much. Does he think, along with Snakey, that the student body should have made one last gesture to Constance by asking her to come, not in drag and with a properly attired male escort, to their private party? And risked Constance continuing to be a snot?
“In an apparent compromise, school district officials said parents would organize a private event with school chaperones that Miss McMillen could attend.”
As I see it some parents organized a private dance with school chaperones and others organized a private dance with parent chaperones. Neither were public school proms nor billed as such, both were private events essentially parties. We do not know the guest lists for either nor do we know the inner workings of how each individual chose which event to attend. There were two private parties and the guest lists were chosen by the organizers and hosts. The young people invited were free to attend or not as they desired.
What’s ad hominem about politicalmom’s question?
You’re asking a lot from a bunch of teenagers.
They had a choice of which dance they wanted to go to.
Everybody got to go to the prom they wanted, Only CONSTANCE, who wanted to FORCE her views on the entire student body, didn’t get what she wanted....
I’m proud of the kids that stood up to Constance....
I thought you did not want the discussion continued
I blame her for her behavior, and them for theirs.
SnakeDoc
You assume that the kids made the choice and not their keepers. You do know what the word assume means?
I thought you did not want the discussion continued — warning #2
My comment should have been directed towards others.
>> I thought you did not want the discussion continued
I discontinued my discussion with you. I have no beef with those that did not slander me behind my back.
SnakeDoc
:)
Presumably they have adult chaperones.
SnakeDoc
You change your words, and lie?
I clarified my intent. Move on — I’m done with you.

Warning #3 on accusing me of “slander behind your back”
I would want to find out the actual facts dealing with this young woman, who another Freeper reports claims she's been a lesbian since the eighth grade.
I wouldn't want to expose any other children to someone who may have been indoctrinated by a pedophile, and who thinks such deviant behavior is "normal" - reinforced by the shock troops of the cultural warriors of the Left.
