When a reporter told Joan Fabiano, founder of Grass Roots in Michigan, that he wanted to attend one of their meetings, the Holt woman informed him via Facebook that reporters were not allowed at their meetings.
The reporter, whose last article on Fabiano's activism referred to the Tea Party movement as "tea bag" in a headline, showed up anyway and once turned away stood in the parking lot of a church interviewing members.
Fabiano wrote about the experience on her blog and posted a link to it on Facebook that went out to her 900-plus Facebook friends.
Late to the technology party, the Tea Party movement is now utilizing new media and other social networking tools to build their following and get their message out.
"We know we have the Internet now," said Tina Dupont of the Tea Party of West Michigan. "And we are communicating. We are forming alliances."

Welcome to FR. We’ve been around since 1997.
“Fabiano wrote about the experience on her blog and posted a link to it on Facebook that went out to her 900-plus Facebook friends.”
In my high school we would have called her a “chatty cathy” who traveled in packs and couldn’t shut up if their life depended on it.
Come back when you grow up.
The Tea Parties have been a success because it is spontaneous and there are no “leaders” to identify and discredit.
I refuse to do Facebook. Defines too many relationships.
I use Twitter, but am cautious about that. Have observed the Net Roots hacking that media. Couple of weeks ago it sounded like some of them got caught, but it was hushed up. I had already observed that some of them were not in US.
“Caution! Will Roger’s.”
Hmmmm...our new-found friend seems to be a hit and run blog pimp from the looks of their history.
Good, I’m glad they turned the reporter away. I don’t know this particular reporter, but in general, the press hasn’t reported objectively on the tea party movement.

They are the Signers of the Declaration of Independence.
