President John Adams once said, "I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is a disgrace, two are a law firm, and three or more become a Congress." With the approval rating of the current congressional gaggle hovering somewhere in the single digits, one has to ask: Can't we do better than this for $174,000 a year and the best benefits package in America?
It takes one's breath away to see the blatant disregard so many of our senators and representatives have for the very Constitution they have sworn to defend. Take, for example, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, who made the following statement recently concerning the healthcare bill: "I love these members [of Congress]. They get up and say, 'Read the bill!' What good is reading the bill if its a thousand pages long and you don't have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?"
This man is a lifelong lawyer and a 22-term Democrat. Do you think he cares about what is constitutional and what is not? (Oh, and by the way, congressman, this bill was not a thousand pages, it was twenty-four hundred pages.)
Last fall, when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked by a CNSNews.com reporter to cite the provisions in the Constitution granting Congress the authority to pass a healthcare bill, she answered with an incredulous, "Are you serious?" Are you, Madame Speaker?

Members of Congress have been, historically, useless meatheads who couldn’t think of anything else to do with their lives.
This didn’t all start with Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid.
Although, I will allow that those two are magnificent putzes. :)
Don’t worry if it looks bad in November they’ll just pass a new law declaring Obama ruler by fiat or something. heh
Mis-educated and self-absorbed.
No. We have become a democracy which term really translates into governance by money. For example, Jesse Unruh a powerful past Democratic leader of the California Legislature stated: “Money is the mothers milk of politics.”
Maybe we are getting the government we deserve! A horrible thought which needs to be said.
Basically the same thing.
Small point and mainly verbal but Oligarchy is usually a nobility. There is nothing noble about any member of congress. Simply a rabble, each member of which has leather lungs.

There’s usually nothing really noble about nobility either.
You know, the level of disconnect of the French aristocracy comparison is pretty accurate along with the imperious attitude. Of course if you used that to their face you'd be arrested for threatening violence given what happened to the French aristocracy.
In many cases, the party apparatus works very hard to ensure that nobody good gets on the ballot or--if someone good does get on--works even harder to undermine that person. The GOP is infested with RINOs who regard conservatives as their enemies and liberals as their friends. In many cases, the majority of voters may want to have a good candidate, but the party apparatus won't let that happen.
Congress threw dice. They came up snake eyes.
