Nothing mysterious about it; the ship was sunk by the North Koreans in a deliberate act of war. Nevertheless, the whole thing will be hushed up and allowed to pass, as the crew of the USS Pueblo will testify.

S. Korean ship obscured by murky sea conditions

...and murkier political considerations, as noted in other posts. They're going to drag this out for quite a while.

Geez, the Cheonan, for intents, seems to have been sunk by a torpedo from a submarine.

North Korea doesn’t do anything this extreme without the urging and approval of China.
