That is so exciting for your grandson. It tickles me just to think about how special that must be for him... camping out in the car... watching the shuttle... Man! I was about that age when they first walked on the Moon. It’s all so amazing when you’re a kid like that. My prayers for an awesome trip and a safe journey home for them.

Relish these final flights, folks. US dominance of space is soon to come to an end. (sigh) Sigh....I got out From The Earth To The Moon DVD's this weekend and watched the whole series.....sigh...

The astronauts are just finishing getting suited up in their Launch & Entry suits. They aren’t too far away from going on the walk to the AstroVan and the ride out to the pad.
There is a concern with weather for a Return To Launch Site capability. Cross your fingers and hope they don’t scrub.

NASA says everything is GO so far. All the TAL sites are available with good weather should the Shuttle need to abort and not return to KSC.

You’re welcome!
Crew is now on the 195 level of the pad and preparing to enter the Shuttle.
Only concern now is a small possibility of fog at the Shuttle Landing Facility. Otherwise, everything is GO.

No dish; no cable.
But I has a computer: Plug this URL into your Windows Player and you too can watch them light that candle:

Or open up another browser window with NASA TV - Discovery Launch

Just, “Oh, wow!” Thanks for that link!
We had this subject come up at our Republican County Convention. I spoke in favor of funding for NASA and finally got to use Jim Kirk’s line about going “out there,” pointing to the sky as I did! A lifetime dream come true.
(saying prayers for the safety of the crew and success for the mission!)
