Obami Pushing Israel to Act Unilaterally?
Commentary Mag. ^ | 4/4/10 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 04/04/2010 5:00:55 PM PDT by Nachum

The Obami are promising another round of sanctions aimed at Iran. This will be the fourth round, and we should not, judging from press reports, expect them to be “crippling.” As Bill Kristol noted on Fox News Sunday:

The only things that can stop the Iranian nuclear program are — would be the success of the green movement in Iran, which the Obama administration has done nothing to help and remains incredibly indifferent to and standoffish to on the one hand, or military action on the other, which the Obama administration seems uninterested in doing and I’m afraid is setting up a situation where Israel will feel it has to act.

If Bibi gives in to our First Imam he will haveonly himself to blame. The Congress has sent him a bi-partisan message that he can do whatever he wants. And with a GOP House this fall, Obama will be totaly unable to exact any military or monetary cost upon him. Just wait it out Bibi!

This has IMHO been Obama’s plan all along: Give Israel no choice but to take care of Iran, then turn on her completely and treat her like a pariah. It should be blatantly obvious to all by now that Obama hates Israel.

I’m all for Israel acting unilaterally.

It’s totally okay with me if they select some jihadist trouble spots and turn them into baked parking lots. Start with Gaza and then the Bekaa Valley.

It’s OK. The Jews will vote for him anyways. He’s advised by his staff ...

Greetings, and thanks for all the pings. Profuse apologies for going somewhat off topic, but I heard back from my friend who questions the advisability of allowing Jews to live in modern day Israel. She responded to your comments, and said I could share her answer with you. Should I do it on the thread, or via PM? (I don’t want to get reprimanded for hijacking a thread, but perhaps the discussion would be of general interest.)

There have been suggestions from the Left that the US needs to invade Western Palestine to ensure the “rights” of the Palestinians.

Israel cannot act unilaterally if we actively oppose it. Z.Brezhinski suggested a year ago that the US military should shoot down IAF planes launched on such a mission. I suspect that was a message from the new administration.

Well here you go. For those unfamiliar with the original discussion, my friend posited that Israel was forcibly taken from the Palestinians and given to the Jews, whereas a better solution would have been to make Germany carve out a Jewish state from their homeland. Nachum knocked that one out of the park, and here is my friend’s response:

< < Huh. I guess this whole analogy can go back even farther, though... I remember in the Old Testament Abraham had a child with Sarah’s servant and then the servant and kid were later kicked out when Sarah finally had a baby. Ishmael and Isaac were the start of it all, right? Whenever I heard that story as I kid, I thought Hagar got a raw deal, but at the same time she did stuff that would undoubtedly make Sarah her enemy. Sarah offers her handmaiden to Abraham, and if I were Hagar, I wouldn’t be so happy to be “offered”! (But then maybe she liked Abraham and liked the status.) Hagar flaunts her child and tries to get the upper hand on Sarah, but at this point it could be because she resented being raped by Abraham. Or maybe she went to Abraham willingly with this plan the whole time. No way to tell! Either way, I’m sure they both made their kids hate each other, because these don’t seem like especially mature people who easily let go of grudges. That would be my answer to the analogy... it’s difficult to tell who “started it” - and really, it’s so interesting (and sad) that arabs and jews are still fighting! If Sarah, Abraham, and Hagar were on reality TV, they’d all be “villains” - viewers would love to hate all of them... but they’re not on TV - they’re part of a historic enmity that so many people have died for. Both sides are too invested to possibly admit that they aren’t the only wronged party... it’s difficult to fight for the shades of grey, and difficult to admit that people died in vain. I will be very impressed if some semblance of peace can be reached during my lifetime... I have no idea what it would take. (Eh - maybe, knowing human nature... it would take a common enemy.)

For every battle to win back the “rightful ownership of the desk” in the previous analogy, it’s “the bully taking away my desk again” to the other side. So messed up! ;) > >

[Side-note from me: moral equivalence is a mental disorder.]

Just as in the days of Jeremiah the prophet, when God forbade Israel from looking to Egypt for deliverance, because He wanted them to look to Him and Him alone........He is taking the US away so that Israel has no place to look, but Him, and Him alone

Wow. Just wow. What an interesting interpretation of the Bible. How fitting we are in the time of Passover.

My answer might be along the lines of...

If you are going to the stories of the Old Testament, why focus only on the "raw deal" that Ishmael gets.

Ishmael had little to do with Isaac after he and Hagar were kicked out by Sarah for a few generations. How do you know that the kids hated each other because of that? The Bible only refers to Ishmael hating "everybody" and wanting war with "everybody" including his own family.

As the Jews have lived under the boot heel of Islam for over a thousand years in the middle east before the birth of modern Israel, we see the truth in the prophecy of the Bible in calling Ishmael a "wild man".

-----------

I have not the time now to answer you completely. But- her history and analysis of the Bible is made from her imagination. Not wanting to insult her, I would only suggest that it is the children of Ishmael have attacked Jews,(repeatedly) created a religion that was a poor imitation of Judaism (Islam) and have killed more of their own kind, than they have the Jews.

When I get back after the end of Passover (in a couple of days) I will try to give you more. :)

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your really interesting and helpful reply. I’m sorry I’ve been interrupting your Passover. I hope you thoroughly enjoy what remains of it. Personally, I think once a person drinks the Moral Equivalence Kool Aid, it’s an uphill battle to break through. What an insidious belief system. But I’ll pass your initial thoughts along, and we’ll see how it goes. :)

Maybe with enough pokes and jabs from Hill and O, Israel can be shoved into defending itself. Then O's admin. can point to them as the "bad guys", but won't have to make a decision.

What a statesman! /s
