My son called from San Diego. He is working at the cafe in the Space Museum and when the first quake hit, the building was shaking like crazy. He started to leave and a man said "Wait can I get my cappuccino?" My son said "No Sir, we are evacuating the building."
Some people, huh?

Sounds like a typical San Diego native. The last big ones I experienced in San Diego were Northridge and Landers. One of them dumped all my wife's shoes off the shelf in the closet and on top of me where I was sleeping. It was a mess getting out of bed with all the shoe boxes on to of me and all over the floor. I had to travel to Nebraska that day. It was spooky sitting in the airport waiting around in San Diego as another aftershock hit. I was wondering of all those huge glass windows in the terminal were going to hold up OK.
I was working late at a friend's house in Escondido in 1989 when a sharp vertical jolt dropped a wall mounted bookshelf on the floor. The screws holding the brackets sheared off. Fortunately, we were about 6 feet away when all the books hit the floor.
