How many of those who lost were the targets of all-out assaults by the left?

When do the rats fight fair?

Defeatism on your part.

Not defeatism. fear.

The 2006 Senate bill (Hagel-Martiniz) never got to the Rep controlled House. Sensenbrenner helped put a stop to it. The House passed an enforcement only bill (HR 4437), but it never got to the Senate. The WH (read Rove) put a stop to that bill.

Many laws are created in a conference committee that reconciles conflicted bills. Sensenbrenner does not have the power to stop a Senate bill. Hastert was all powerful in the House. Sensenbrenner was just one out of 230 Republicans. Hastert only needs 216 votes to pass legislation. The White House does not have the power to stop a House bill. The White House has even less power when the party is actively running away from the President. But just think how bad the GOP losses might have been if the House had not passed the splendid enforcement only bill. It probably saved the GOP a million votes.

Not so. For example, Hayworth did not lose on the issue of immigration. Mitchell tried to position himself as being stronger on the issue than Hayworth.

Nobody really believes that. There isn't a democrat alive today that is to the right of JD on immigration. Has Mitchell been hanging out with the minute men and sponsoring legislation to commence the construction of a 50 ft electrified fence with razor wire around the border of the land of the free and the home of the brave? Don't you like JD? Why would you throw him under the bus like that?

You knife Hastert in the back above and now you denigrate the author of "Whatever It Takes: Illegal Immigration, Border Security, and the War on Terror." 7 months before the election he's defending the border with the Minute Men. He's saying all the right stuff about isolationist superstar Tancredo and he gets no credit from you. Hasn't he paid his dues? Some sweet talking rat whispers "I'm gonna build me a 300 ft fence with armed storm troopers and snipers," or "I intend to introduce legislation that will confiscate the ill gotten property of the soon to be deporting 20 million illegals to help balance the budget," or "I saw JD at Taco Bell." Do you think JD's district voters are that stupid? wow..you chew your heroes up and spit em out to make a political point. Maybe this is why border patriots can't seem to rise passed congressional seats.

The rest of your post was a substantive argument and I appreciate the links to the other posts.

Only you could twist this study into your own agenda.

Only me? You make me sound sinister. I'm just an American Dad with a job and an opinion and a fascination for politics. I have no agenda.

The ONE thing the blacks, latinos, muslims, and native Indians have in common is they see each other as groups of ‘color and ‘YT’ as the enemy. Rather like you, once-ler. THEY are who elected Obama, and others who are soft on illegal aliens.

I'm white and I voted GOP in every election since 1990. I worked for my state party for 10 years. I'm a Republican first and a conservative second. I play for my team. When my team wins the rats do not get to run the government. That all by itself is enough reason to always vote GOP.

McCain helped Obama in many ways, other than stating O would make a fine president.

That's just politics.

Now the nation must choose between them, and while we believe either man would make a fine president, we endorse Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Read more: The State(SC)

McCain headed the Indian Senate affairs, and penned CFR. He helped Obama SO much. He excluded Indian tribes from giving amounts like everyone else, and then Obama cleaned up on the Indian $$$.

You mean like JD? Hayworth will keep tribal gifts despite scandal

I don't know how much CFR helped 0baMao since he refused spending limits and federal dollars, but whatever...you're on a roll.

In fact, I can’t think of one piece of McCain legislation that wasn’t hand in hand with the democrats or that ever did one ounce of good for America. Can you?

I like...

Beyond nonsense. You couldn't prove that if your life depended on it.

A powerful and persuasive argument for your side...Well played sir.

Your response is proof too.

What cost Republicans votes was the insulting, year-after-year attempt by Bush/Rove to ram amnesty down the throats of a political party that opposed it by 70% and more.

Immigration reform passed in the House and the Senate. It was the GOP leadership that killed the conference committee despite Dubya's willingness to sign it. So why would the voters punish the couragous border patriots like Randy Graf, JD Hayworth, John Hostettler, Chris Chocola, Anne Northup, Melissa Hart, Bob Beauprez, Charles Taylor, Gil Gutknecht, Richard Pombo, Rick Santorum, Tom Kean, Katherine Harris, and Jan Ting? Why can't a pro-border zealot rise to the level of US Senator or Governor, or GOP Presidential nominee? Why are they all from tiny congressional districts, or sheriffs, or having no visible means of support?

How are they going to win a nation? Take Tancredo for example. In May 1999, Tancredo founded the House Immigration Reform Caucus. He's been in the forefront of this issue for a long time. Tancredo could have run unopposed for the CO GOP Gov nomination in 04. As Governor he would be in a position to set an example for the rest of the country. Instead he is taking in 8 million dollars running for Prez and Lord only knows at Team Ameica PAC, doing tea party speeches and calling for literacy tests at polls...the longer it takes to resolve the issue...the more money Tank rakes in. Ay carumba!

Bush's poor communication skills were very costly, insulting everyone with his pathetic little pro-amnesty phrases, and his inability to sell the Iraq war to the American people, or his SS reform which also failed.

I read this at DU, Salon, and the Drive-by Media. You can read my FR home page for my opinion of President George W Bush.

You blame a handful of losses on the Republican House's rejection of amnesty. What do you attribute the scores of other losses to, in the House and Senate???

Corruption, natural political cycles, and the economy. "Thank God John McCain lost the election" - Tom Tancredo and 0.

The House bill was an enforcement only approach. It was distinct and separate from the CIR bill that passed the Senate, i.e., Hagel-Martinez. Without going too far down in the weeds, the House bill (Sensenbrenner-King) was torpedoed by the WH and never got to the Senate. Check the link below:

In a conference call with reporters, Sensenbrenner also said Bush had "basically turned his back" on a tough border security bill after requesting that certain provisions be included before passage last year.

The Senate bill never made it to the House because it contained appropriation language that cannot be initiated by the Senate. Sensenbrenner sent it back to the Senate to change the language of the bill, but it died there.

I have a home in Scottsdale and am very aware of what went on in that election. Immigration was not the reason JD lost. I am a big suporter of JD. I have already contributed three times to his campaign, had my picture taken with him at CPAC, and plan on going out to AZ to help him. Mitchell has portrayed himself as tough on illegal immigration. He tried to make the case that he was even tougher than JD. JD did not vote for the House enforcement bill because he believed it was not tough enough. Mitchell tried to play it another way. In any event, immigration did not decide the race. Redistricting and some personal allegations against JD cost him in a very close race.

You knife Hastert in the back above

LOL. It had nothing to do with Hastert. Stop making up these phony strawmen.

and now you denigrate the author of "Whatever It Takes: Illegal Immigration, Border Security, and the War on Terror."

More crapola from you. Go back and take a look at my previoius posts over the past months. You will not find a bigger supporter of JD at FR. I am committed to the defeat of John McCain.

FYI: I am an immigration activist who lobbies on the Hill and in Richmond. I have been doing it for over four years. I know the issue and follow it very closely.

“A powerful and persuasive argument for your side...Well played sir.”

Thanks, it’s definitely more powerful than anything you’ve posted here. All you’ve done is list a handful of pro-enforcement Republican losses in Congress and ascribe the losses to their position on immigration. You’ve done nothing to establish any connection between the losses and immigration. Actually, in on Utah race where amnesty clearly was the issue, the pro-amnesty Republican Cannon lost to a virtual unknown:

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/06/25/shamnesty-republican-chris-cannon-defeated-in-utah-primary/

And as Michelle Malkin points out, some of the Dim opponents who won ran a strongly anti-amnesty as the Republicans.

And you think Rick Santorum lost because of immigration? Lol.

For years, polls have shown that Americans oppose illegal immigration and amnesty from around 60% up to 80%. It is regrettable that amnesty has not been a major, vote deciding issue in very many congressional elections so far. If it had been, large numbers of pro-amnesty reps and senators would have been voted out.

Whether you’re shilling for McCain or whatever, all you’ve done is list a bunch of events and claim they happened because of someone’s position on amnesty and illegal immigration, but you’ve provided no evidence to support your contentions. I wish amnesty would become as big an election day issue as you falsely claim it has been.

Nonetheless, your earlier post was misleading: as though being anti-Amnesty led to a groundswell of ordinary people turning against those candidates.

As pointed out by an earlier poster on this thread, that is simply incorrect.

FAIL.
