As Hungary prepares to vote in a crucial election, the far-Right Jobbik party expects great success - to the consternation of democrats and those old enough to remember the fascist past.
The rally in a school hall in the normally sleepy town of Dunakeszi was packed with hundreds of supporters. They cheered as Mr Vona promised to rid Hungary of corruption and crack down on foreign interests.
He spoke about stopping Roma, the country's biggest ethnic minority, from sponging off the state - forcing anyone claiming benefits to perform public service in return. He promised to "give back Hungary's national pride and identity".
With one week to go before the country goes to the polls for the first of two rounds of voting, Jobbik has reaped the benefit of the spectacular demise of Hungary's left-wing MSZP government. Accused of rampant corruption and castigated from all sides for mismanagement of the worst recession since 1989, the government faces a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Right.

The worst thing the article says about the "right-wing" Jobbik party that they want to get rid of corruption and want to "force" anyone who is getting government benefits to perform public service. How awful! (/sarc)
How they get from that to accusing them of Nazism is beyond me. Sound more like leftists everywhere accuse others of Nazism.
I can’t claim to know too much about Jobbik party beliefs but they seem to deliberately fashion themselves after fascists of the 1940s (flags, banners, uniforms, etc). They also have working relationships with groups like the BNP in the UK. You don’t do those sort of things if you’re trying to avoid being given the “Nazi” label.
I’m just saying...
Another BS example of the media associating ‘right wing’ with naziism.
People, there is going to a major conflagration somewhere in the NEAR future...maybe even in multiple places. Europe, Eurasia...the U.S....The media will declare it ‘right wing extremism’/naziism vs. normalcy (i.e., socialism) but the real battle ground would be properly labelled ‘individual liberty’.
We cannot be fooled by the ‘labellers’.
“they seem to deliberately fashion themselves after fascists of the 1940s (flags, banners, uniforms, etc). They also have working relationships with groups like the BNP in the UK”
Do you have any sources for this? Since the article has the title it has, I would think they would provide evidence about such things, if it were true and they provide no evidence for any of this.
Wanting to stop corruption by the leftists is now considered Nazism?
This is a bad thing?
What a hit piece this article is. Comparing right wing Jobbik with right wing gov't of the 1940s is not too far off, but to call it Fascist is a lie. Making the 1940s Hungarian gov't out as being terrible is also another falsehood -- the invastion of Hungary by Russia and its ensuing 22 years of communism was the darkest hour in Hungary's recent past. It was the right that gave Hungary progress -- it was the left that destroyed Hungary. Even the hard left communists are gone, the lefty socialists are still making their mark known and felt.
to the consternation of democrats and those old enough to remember the fascist past.
FASCISM is and always has been a LEFTIST IDEOLOGY, They are Blood Brothers to Communism
I found their website (in English), it doesn’t sound like they are espousing anything remotely resembling Nazism.
“Everyone must respect democratic norms and the will of the people” — said Vona, president of the Jobbik Party.
That’s more than what Obama is doing, regarding the will of the people.
Well, here’s one on the Jobbik-BNP relationship: http://www.jobbik.com/jobbik-announcements/3016.html
Note the pretty uniforms (supposedly modeled on peasant clothing if I remember correctly): http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article6457752.ece

Jobbik banners, and BNP speaker at Jobbik rally: http://thecst.org.uk/blog/?p=231
And just for fun look at the eyes of the first guy in this photo (and note his pretty uniform again): http://thefastertimes.com/protofascistmovements/2009/07/12/brutes-in-budapest/
Now, remember those red and white Jobbik banners and uniform patches? Okay, now look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow_Cross_Party
For more pretty uniforms and BNP links see: http://www.nothingbritish.com/tag/jobbik/
Now, remember, I am not saying they are fascists or Nazis, but they sure seem to either be deliberately copying their wardrobe and making friends with other people already labeled as fascists and Nazis or they’re really, really dumb about their choices. And yes, I realize that they are damned in the liberal press no matter what they do if they evoke and nationalistic non-politically correct (anti-Roma) causes, but still if it walks like a duck and wears the duck’s uniform too...
I’m just saying...
Thanks for the posting a summary of your research. Of course they are not Nazis. The left is scared of the right and is smearing them whenever they can.
The left is failing all over the globe, but their apologists can also be found all over the globe.
AFAIC, Nazis are Leftists, also. Hitler borrowed his Nazi salute from American Socialists and his swastika from the early Soviet Union (it was on several of their currency notes).
Hungarian national dress now illegal
nazism, fascism is born from the left- it was the National *Socialist* German Workers Party.
Mussolini was a communist/socialist, as was his father, a contemporary and acquaintance of Karl Marx.
These guys are nationalists/fascists, and not right wingers.
“You dont do those sort of things if youre trying to avoid being given the Nazi label.”
They can have the label, but they aren’t right wing, as neither were the nazis.
The Nazis were definitely not right wing. The Jobbik party? I have no idea. I think they’re nationalists, but that doesn’t mean they’re right wing.
Only a complete imbecile would try to bring up some fear of fascism from that.
Hey, I knew Obama was a 1930's-era Southern Agrarian, but I didn't know he was a Hungarian "far rightist" as well!
I don’t know anything about this. I found a commercial that appears to be for the movement. If there is anyone here who speaks the language, I’d like to know what’s being said here.

There is probably some truth, albeit no doubt exaggerated, to the claim that this party has some fascist leanings.
That said, the rise of these types of parties is a direct result of the mainstream parties’ utter failure to respond to public concern about immigration, the dilution of Western culture, and the disempowerment of national governments (by supernational organizations).
Nazis weren’t right wing.
