I oppose "compassionate conservatives" who think it's the job of the Government to "do the Lord's work" yet squeal like stuck piglets when that same Government threatens to curtail their freedoms and liberties.

These "compassionate Christians" are an extreme minority within the Christian right.

Do you agree with that statement Rabs?

When you derisively state "do the Lord's work" are you referring to Abortion and Anti-Gay Marriage initiatives?

Not only are the “compassionate conservatives” an extreme minority, the are usually not fundamentalist Christians, but what are members of what they call “mainstream churches” that are more or less using Christianity to justify their political beliefs.

I would agree, they are usually those who believe in a "Social" gospel which is really just Communism-Lite.

I've seen similiar comments by Libertarians on FreeRepublic.

Either they are woefully uninformed, or as I suspect, just the habit of distorting reality to support their position.

It’s like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his liberation theology. They believe that Jesus was a great socialist and that the apostle, Paul was the greatest community organizer of all time.

How can anybody trust libertarians when their favorite
“son” loads up legislation that he knows will pass and
gives the pork while giggling “I voted against it.”?

"...His congressional frugality borders on treason within free-spending Congress..."

Good grief. You should be careful...there are people who will read this and believe it.

Yes-many conservatives are not against government spending...we recognize that there are things our taxpayer money SHOULD be spent on.

But we don’t believe in government run and mandated heathcare, huge increases in government employment and other unjustified spending.

We see spending on national defense as a sound investment against outside aggression. We see spending on NPR, buying car companies and banks, and investment in unions as wasteful and unconstitutional.

The constant wars between the European states, driven by the greed and egos of their respective unelected leaders, was ongoing and constant for almost a thousand years, ended finally with WWII. These rivarlies and wars served only to destory wealth created by the people of these countries. So, did French intervention in our war really serve the long term interests of France? Did their interventions result in our independence? I think both of these answers are no. Although, it is possible the French intervention served their interest indirectly by promoting American ideology of freedom in the resulting French Revolution, which was unfortunatly quickly distorted and marginalized.

No, thank you.

This is not really a game, but the cheerleaders and scorekeepers aren't even in the game.

I would expect to see a discussion of the upside of liberty rather than either the real or imagined downside on Free Republic.

Expect what you wish, describe that liberal agenda as you wish, but freerepublic exists to fight that agenda if I understand it’s conservative mission.
