McCain gets high marks from GOP base (leads JD 52-37 according to Kos poll)

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) not only leads his primary opponent in a new poll, but also garners a high approval rating from the GOP base.

McCain leads former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) 52-37 in a head-to-head matchup.

The new Research 2000 poll for the liberal website Daily Kos also shows McCain with a 76 percent favorable rating among Republicans, with 19 percent unfavorable. Hayworth's numbers are 61 percent positive and 16 percent negative.

The numbers seem to indicate that Hayworth isn't necessarily seen as a superior candidate by the GOP base. If McCain is ousted, it will probably be because of the anti-incumbent sentiment that exists right now.

Whether Hayworth can fill that role remains to be seen. Replacing an incumbent senator with a former congressman who can be tied to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff doesn't seem like a logical way for voters to express their dismay with Washington.

Well if McCain has 79% approval from Republicans, than I can say I'm DAMN GLAD not to be one. I have next to nothing in common with these imbeciles.

This is a Soros poll. It is pretty obvious that McCain Dem mole. This is the same kind of “polling” we saw for Obama.

Ignore it. McCain and the Democrats must be worried that McCain will lose.

What "Base" is being identified here? I call BS. McLame has lost GOP support from voters.

Georgie Soro’s boy, Kos, is scared to death that Hayworth is going to oust there boy, McCain. This so-called “poll” isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. It’s more or less nothing but a pile of bull manure.

Whether Hayworth is down 7 points or 15 points, he’s still losing. There is plenty of time to close the gap, but McCain has probably bolstered his support with Palin’s endorsement and campaign rally.

Well Obama won the election, so if those polls were accurate then, we should worry about these now.

All I can say is maybe those in Arizona wanting a change in Republican representation should work EVEN HARDER.

You never know what you can accomplish if you try.

I like Palin and understand her loyalty to McCain because of what he has done for her. However, she needs to understand that McCain only did that because of his weakness with the conservative base and, in the process, used her. She need to make sure she allows herself adequate space from him or she will be in the same position as him.

She needs to be seen as loyal but not indebted to McCain or her career in the GOP is over, at least with conservatives.

If McCain wins it will be because of her support. In which case she has lost my support. She is not going to fair well if he wins.

Truth for today:

If the Libs tell us good things about a GOP candidate (In this case a RINO), we should do an immediate 180.

Once again they’re trying to select our candidate.

In politics I admire loyalty to principle. It should not be about personal paybacks and quid pro quos. McCain chose to pick Sarah because he thought it would benefits himself. He did not do it as a favor to her. So she owes him nothing. She catapulted to fame because of who she is. I would rather she be true to constitutional principles and the American people than some party bigwig.

She catapulted to fame because of who she is.No one would know who she is without McCain.

Very difficult balancing act.

A McCain re-election would be an indicator that Republicans haven't learned
a thing in the last 10 years and sadly it augers well for an Obama second term.

Plus, Sarah paid McCain back fully by being the only person trying to win in 2008.

She owes him nothing.

If McCain loses the primary, he will run as an independent and win, only this time he will be even more pissed at the GOP.

It will be another Lieberman situation.
