'Bondage-gate' spurs donor drain for RNC

Thu Apr 1, 9:51 pm ET

It's not bad enough that, for some time forward, the words "Republican National Committee" will be the most frequent phrase surfacing in online search terms using the words "West Hollywood bondage club." Now leaders of the RNC have to contend with the defection of key constituencies from the committee's donor base.

The RNC had hoped that the fallout from the scandal known as "bondage-gate" would blow over when it fired Allison Meyers, the staffer who put in for reimbursed expenses for a January outing at the Voyeur sex club. Meyers had been entertaining members of the RNC's Young Eagles—i.e., conservative donors under the age of 45. Her dismissal came a day after the Daily Caller, a conservative website, published an expose of questionable RNC expenditures.

But that personnel move still hasn't quelled criticism in conservative movement circles. The latest blow to RNC morale: Tony Perkins—the head of the influential Family Research Council—has called on supporters to stop giving money to the RNC in the wake of the scandal.

I’m really not surprised at this. The current RNC is just “Democrat Lite” as far as I am concerned.

It’s funny how the trangressions of a low-level unelected staffer is a big controversy for Yahoo News - meanwhile Dem elected congressman who sexually abuse and cheat on taxes etc last about a day in the news cycle.

Well-said. When high-ranking Dems do this stuff, it's "time to forgive, forget, and donate heavily".

When a low-ranking Rep worker does something of a much minor nature and is fired, it's "time to shut down the gravy train".

"Evil will be called good and good will be called evil"...

I would think this is pretty minor stuff to the big money contributors.

It might also be interesting to look in to Alison’s background or that of the person who arranged the event.

We had a bizarre incident at our GOP club in a city I was living in about 10 years ago where a “staffer” arranged a party for people in a GOP youth group - at which he provided the kids with kegs of beer (paid for, of course, by party headquarters). This was immediately revealed and was the stuff of headlines and charges for weeks.

Later, it emerged that the “staffer” was actually secretly in the employ of the local Democrat club, and had infiltrated the GOP club and staged this to give the GOP a black eye just before the first GW Bush election. He actually boasted about it later, but of course, the local GOP never took legal action against him or the Dems.

While it’s really possible that bad judgment (and bad morals) were involved in this latest incident, don’t rule out dirty tricks.

The present scandal is only a very small part of the rot that infests the Republican party. For the RNC to blame its financial problems mainly on it shows that the RNC is dishonest.

"When a low-ranking Rep worker does something of a much minor nature and is fired, it's "time to shut down the gravy train". "

I think that is because of our own complacency in allowing others to define us.

The right needs to get off their National "guilt trip" and start being the adults in the situation and do what has to be done - pleasant or not.

Continued strict adherence to political correctness - not obama directly - will be the undoing of this nation. They have managed to split us into two nations, and two nations can't exist while cohabitated. If all the population is note willing to follow the commonelaws and customs of the land, then the whole nation becomes oil and water.

It's not time now to feel guilty when we are "accused" of something, it's time to get enraged and fight back to correct the record.

Back in the 50's and 60's, even the 70's, there was still some racist stuff going on, and some people shouted racist. Now - since they have seen the power of the word "racist" - they claim it when it DOESN'T even happen and they can't produce any proof.

I think until we get to where being called a "Racist" is the same level of insult as being called the "N-word", then it will be a one-sided game with the government and democrats holding all the cards.

If the "N" word is a hate crime, then the R-word should be too, especially when they just make it up.

Democrats are expected to be sexual perverts- it’s one of their requirements. Along with shady financial dealings and drug use.

Heck, through in some homosexuality and/or bestialitry & you get to be a top leader who’s had a courageous struggle against white christian bigotry.

No problem. Just send contributions to Jim DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund right here:
https://senateconservatives.com/v1/index.php?p=contribute&c=

He will put the money to a heck of a lot better use than the idiotic, private plane chattering, amnesty loving Michael Steele.

I am not even sure if you are kidding or you are serious. LOL!
But of course Republicans go to bondage clubs. It's not just Democrats who visit these kinds of places. That's not the issue. You can go to all the bondage clubs you like, just don't do it on the monies that struggling families in a recession hit country, have sent to you to help the GOP take over congress in November.

I think the ‘Pubs get beaten down this way because there’s the perception of hypocrisy.

The ‘Pubs can’t scream they’re the party of family values and then have actions like this. I think it’s expected of the ‘Rats, and therefore less of a news item.

True conservatives who live by their principles, maybe not.
Nominal conservatives, yes.
How many times have you seen stories of a “God fearing, conservative” politician or leader, caught at some sleazy club or the other, or up to no good with lose women even while married? A lot more often than we'd like to think.
Like I said, I wouldn't be that bothered if some worker at the RNC decided to go to some club or the other, as long as they use their own money to do it.
