Which (Texas) governor candidate has D.C.'s ear? (on border security)

How best to keep Texas' border secure will always cause political fights, but you've got to wonder when a Democratic candidate for governor touts readier access to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security than the GOP incumbent asking for help...

...SMU political scientist Cal Jillson... “I think he (White) was trying to demonstrate that he would have far superior access than Perry does to Washington. But . . . the idea of (White) trying to take over the relationship with Washington at this point is bound to cause him more grief than otherwise.”

As for Perry, Jillson said, “He simply cannot expect to pound Washington day after day, and then get quick and positive returns of his phone calls.”

...no side was covered in glory when White said he'd pressed U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano for more border resources and airborne surveillance, as Perry already had. White said Napolitano told him the request would get serious consideration and that “she would give a similar response to the Texas governor if he talked to her about it, which he has not.”

Perry's office said he had talked with her last year and written, but her office refused to schedule a call in the last several months.

Department of Homeland Security spokesman Matt Chandler described the White-Napolitano conversation less dramatically than did White. A day later, Napolitano wrote to Perry saying her agency was considering an expansion of drone operations into West Texas. A request for more National Guard troops from Perry and other border governors has been sitting for more than a year.

Jillson noted Perry hasn't been shut out of communication with the federal government, adding, “But he hasn't gotten everything he's requested in the time frame he had hoped for. To which I say, ‘Well, duh.' ” ...

You know that it’s an election year when Bill White (D) tries to run to the right of ‘Rick Perry (R) in an election year’.

It’s funny to hear him talk around his record when he gets interviewed on 740AM KTRH. “that wasn’t me” “that wasn’t in my power” “that that that...”

See, I have never understood why Perry, or whomever will sit in the big chair in this state, would have to ask permission to take care of this problem...

A clear and present danger exists in this state, and the more fartin’ around anyone does, the blood of our citizens is on their hands!!! As we have already seen...

We no longer have a souther border, it has morphed into a homogenous line on some piece of paper which is easily ignored by those we elect into office...

But then again why should we expect government to take care of this criminal activity???

I think the Texas Rangers are up to the job if Perry has the guts to send them there.
