Sacramento, CA - Cars will likely become an endangered species in the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains. Caltrans and the US Forest Service settled a lawsuit filed in the Northern California District Court by GaiaSustain, a Wyoming-base environmental organization, late Wednesday afternoon. The settlement, which keeps commercial, government, and emergency traffic in the mountains, will require the elimination of private vehicles above 2,200 feet above sea level after April 1, 2018.
The 2008 lawsuit contended that vehicular traffic in the mountains violated a 1977 environmental treaty with Mexico to reduce airborne dust pollution. GaiaSustain alleged in the suit that high-altitude driving along the coastal and desert slopes produced an additional 220 metric tons of pollutants beyond those permitted by the treaty. Originally, GaiaSustain sought to eliminate all ground vehicles.
Well, that’s okay, then - as long as it makes the Mexicans happy, we’ll stay away from our mountains.
I was a Customs Inspector on the Mexican border. I remember choking and gagging as huge 60’s and 70’s era cars came through from Mexico belching smoke and fumes from the poor quality Mexican gas. They were mobile pollution machines, and we had no right to stop them if their papers were in order.
The Onion...right?

Same theory behind the Health Control Law.
April Fools folks.
Read the whole thing. The hints are all over the place.
The continued assured implosion of California is hilarious to watch...
You could be right. I can’t find any news of this from any other source. Well, I do fall for something every once in awhile.
It’s a joke. I sent rimoftheworld an email, and they admitted it was a joke.
Is it time to start hanging greenies from light poles ?
Or just bankrupting their organizations ?
I’ll go for the latter, for sure. But the former is tempting.
INteresting how two government entities were allowed to reach a “settlement” with an environmental organization that allows those two agencies to continue what they always do, but takes away the rights of people who were not a party to the lawsuit, without any legal recourse, and without using the political process.
There is a racket in this country, where left-wing groups sue government agencies, “forcing” those agencies to “settle” the suits in ways the government agencies WANTED to act, but couldn’t because the law didn’t allow them.
