SAN ANGELO, Texas An employee at Cano's Diamonds, 2705 Sherwood Way, this afternoon shot and killed a man who police said was trying to rob the store.
The shooting occurred about 1 p.m. The employee and the owner were the only people in the store.
"He's a little shaken, and understandably so," said San Angelo Police Department Lt. David Howard when asked about the employee who shot the man.
Police were awaiting the arrival of a Justice of the Peace at 2:15 p.m. and said they were still trying to identify the dead man.
The store is across the street from Bratton's Bargain City furniture store, between an optometrist and a watch repair and battery shop. Police had cordoned off the jewelry store and part of an adjacent parking, more than 100 feet of street frontage.
Motorists slowed as they drove by, calling out questions to bystanders. Sherwood Way had been reduced to three lanes because of construction in the area.
This is a breaking news story. More details will be reported as they become available.

Brings a tear to your eye, yes?
I love your headline. Too bad it’s not the same as the one in the link.
And you know how the mods feel about changing the headline.
Protecting one’s life in situation’s like there is not the job of the police, it is nice if they can make it on time, but mostly they should be there to fill out the paperwork and remove the corpse of the offender.
Fixed ;)
Just chalk it up to the exigencies of appropos reporting of dirtbag demise.......entirely warranted in my opinion.
Nice headline, but.... you know the rules.
Good compromise.
Everybody is happy.
(Except the would be robber!)
lol
Indeed. Such a heartwarming tale.
The same thing happened in San Antonio. At North Star Mall. Men went in and stole a diamond and ran out. They got away. They were in a black truck, with a deer decal on the back. I wonder if it could be the same people?
“They were in a black truck, with a deer decal on the back.”
Subtle, really subtle.
Wonder if the perp is related in any way to the nearby infamous cult?
Hopefully, they can't ID him because his face was full of bullet holes.
I love a story with a happy ending!
LOL.
Just thinkin’ outside the box. ;) I mean, I hear funds are low, what with all the losses in court and all...
