Strategists: GOP is peaking too early
Washington Times ^ | March 31, 2010 | Stephen Dinan

Former President Bill Clinton's top political strategists, who had a front-row seat for the Republicans' 1994 electoral successes, said Wednesday that the GOP today is peaking too early and is unlikely to see a repeat performance this November.

Pollster Stan Greenberg said a "change election," as political scientists call major shifts in electoral preferences, already happened when Republican Scott Brown's surprise victory for Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's Senate seat, and between then and November, Democrats will have gained back ground.

"When we look back on this, we're going to say Massachusetts is when 1994 happened," Mr. Greenberg said.

Why? McCain believed he should have been the candidate instead of GW.

As I said the DNC/RNC pick the candidates. That’s what we must change.

Well, given Michael Steele’s ego, incompetence and ambition, I expect the nominee to be Michael Steele then! (Personally I don’t think the RNC picked Reagan . . .)

I think Rasmussen showed he did get a 10 point bounce for about 1 or 2 days. It was mostly his base going from pissed off at his ineptness to being euphoric how he smacked us clingers down. Then the euphoria wore off and was replaced by independents who had been neutral going to a pissed state.

Bottomline, support for Obama and dems is 35% dem party and about 10% independents.

Support for GOP IF THEY GET WITH THE PROGRAM will be 32% pubbies and 23% independents.

But first we are going to purge GOP of their incumbent centrist mentality and then we are going to kill the deomcrat socialist party.

This guys are either plain hacks or morons.

Open benefits enrollment starts usually in October.

I don’t think the imbecilic dems have anybody who hs ever worked in the rpivate sector to realize that.

Doesn’t matter what they say... they are still two shriveled up old communists working to promote a Socialist takeover of every business and industry in America. One side is peaking?

Sounds like a bunch of wishful thinking on their part.

The drilling and nuclear energy are sops to Republicans specifically to get them onboard with a cap and trade bill. It’s cover for twits like Grahmnesty so they can say they got something for their vote to further destroy what’s left of our industrial base.

Unless the economy improves in some substantive way between now and the November elections, the Dems are going to get creamed.

This, and the fact that the Obama-ites appear poised to ram through their far Left agenda is a sure recipe for disaster for the Dems. Also, the one thing that no one wants to talk about is that independent voters are energized for this election cycle, which is rarely the case in a mid-term election. In fact, many that have aligned themselves with the Tea Party are independent voters. If independents show up, they won't be voting Democrat or third party.

That would be so sickening I can only believe it when I see it. I am glad people are speaking out against it and we need to keep hammering these RINOs. I will never forget how I felt the day health care was pushed through the House, but I can imagine it still won’t be as bad as if Cap and Trade pass.

With our energy intensive industries, Texas is going to be the most effected State if electricity rates “necessarily rise” like Obama calls for.

I have heard a plan to counter it though, if you want Texas energy we will tax it even more!

We need the time to field candidates and run campaigns. If anything we don’t have enough time!

The question is can the pressure and enthusiasm be maintained. Healthcare was a policy that affected 100% of the population. Going after the financials will be easier. The only issue I see raising the temperature now is immigration. And in the last week the Dems have begun to develop their racism theme in anticipation. It really is hard to connect opposition to healthcare with racism, though the Dems and MSM tried mightily. But immigration brings the potential for the actions and words of a few opponents to become the identity of the entire anti illegals movement. Played correctly the Dems could make the Tea Party an uncomfortable place to be for many of its current members. This could hold down GOP gains to normal off year numbers.
