John McCain spent more in the last three months than he did the entire 2004 cycle.
His campaign announced Wednesday that it raised $2.2 million this quarter and now has $4.5 million cash on hand. The Arizona senator came into 2010 with $5.05 million banked, which means he's spent $2.75 million in the last three months. In 2004, McCain ran unopposed in the GOP primary and spent $2.1 million defeating a poorly funded Democratic opponent in the general.
J.D. Hayworth, McCain's primary challenger, hasn't yet released his numbers but a spokesman said they were "pleased" with the figures.

[McCain is in trouble. LOTS of trouble.]
His ads are petty/childish and mostly on the edge of truth. Fact is, they are NOT working. He is suddenly for tight security on our borders. Where was he 2 years ago?
” That poll came out before Rob Krentz was murdered.
McAmnesty is in full tilt damage control mode right now trying to portray himself as shocked, just shocked that such a terrible thing could happen.
I’d bet he’s about even with Hayworth right now. “
Hayworth can wrap this murder around McCain’s throat, if he has the guts to do it.
PLEASE GOD, help America - HELP Hayworth defeat this nasty, vicious viper in the Republican bosom.
Sarah, you need to be campaigning harder. Get your butt out there, girl!
The last poll I saw had JD within 7 points - any new poll results?
“Hmm, where’s McCain’s money coming from?”
Soros’ money helped him in the past. I have no doubt he is being helped by Soros again. He has pushed Soros’ agenda in the past since Soros contributes to his election campaigns in not such a round about way.
Hence, my problem with Palin because she is helping a crook...McCain.
If Johnny McCain goes, what will that daughter of his do? She’s not my cup of tea. See, McCain can get only so much milage out of his being a war hero-—especially now that we have younger war heros coming back from Iraq/Afghanistan.
If we can beat him in the primary that *may* wake up some of the RINOs to either get onboard or get out because if we can take out McCain then there’s nothing that can save them.
Better go talk to momma.
OHmyGawd! J.D. is causing the waste of millions of dollars that coould have been spent to fight the worthy opposition.
I mean, like, uhhh, couold you imagine if, like, John were to loose the PRiamry? Would he have to leave the senit? He’s like, ummmm, a national institootion.
What he needs to do is counter stuff like this;
with the reality of McCain’s support for amnesty.
I was disappointed to hear on Fox that the Tea Partiers received him fairly well because Sarah was with him. I wouldn’t have thought that would happen.
I agree.
What a disgrace McCain is. $22 million left over from ‘08 presidential run? “Lose with dignity”, right?
As for those big donors for McCain, they're all big corps who want amnesty and cheap labor. Bingo!
And, yes, that Arizona rancher gettin’ gunned down by illegal aliens should put the nail in the coffin for McCain.
Now if only, Joe Arpiao would announce his candidacy for Governor!
HAYWORTH QUESTIONS McCAINS ELECTION YEAR CONVERSION ON BORDER SECURITY
PHOENIX, AZ (March 30) - J.D. Hayworth stated today that U.S. Senator John McCains recent call for troops on the border is yet another election year conversion which only came after the shooting death of Rob Krentz, a lifelong rancher in Southeastern Arizona. Mr. Krentz was found shot to death after encountering an apparent illegal alien found at one of his cattle watering holes.
J.D. Hayworth said Im glad John McCain has decided to join the effort to secure our borders. I only wish this same passion and fervor had come sooner. One day of anger and outrage does not make up for 28 years of inaction.
Hayworth has long called for the federal government to act and step up its efforts to secure our borders. Border security is national security and it is time that we enforce the law. For Arizonans, border security is also quite literally a matter of personal security.
Hayworth also supports Arizona SB1070 which empowers local law enforcement officers to identify, detain, and help deport those within the borders of Arizona illegally.
Hayworth is challenging McCain in the Arizona Republican primary August 24th. One reason Hayworth is challenging McCain is because of McCains long-standing commitment to Comprehensive Immigration Reform, granting amnesty to illegal aliens.
Hayworth sponsored the anti-amnesty Enforcement First Act during his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
