It's me, not you, Mitt [Why Not To Nominate Mitt in 2012]
Denver Post ^ | March 31, 2010 | David Harsanyi

Not only does Mitt Romney possess an air of real-world know-how, he also has mucho smarts. I've been a reluctant apologist for him for years now.

[snip]

Yet, notwithstanding his many attributes and my own nagging man-crush, it has become evident that Romney's is a hopeless quest for the presidency.

It is possible to see — if one dares to dream — some authentic fiscal conservative emerging to take a shot at the presidency in 2012. While Romney has the required drive, intellect and temperament, he is wrong on the fundamental ideological question of this time: health care.

In fact, Romney's illogical and unconvincing defense of his own health care plan is not only a deal breaker, it allows folks like White House press secretary Robert Gibbs to tell reporters that Obamacare is similar to a plan enacted (and still defended) by a leading Republican contender in 2012. And Gibbs is right.

Even this writer, who is NOT a cultural conservative, recognizes that Mitt will have his own Romneycare dogging him in any 2012 general-election fight.

That's entirely in ADDITION to his flip-flops on abortion.

I'd hold my nose and vote Romney over Obama, sure, but please, can we do better?

True! When I first joined, Mitt was anti-abortion! Then came 2002. And then came 2008 and he’s anti-abortion again. Eesh. I’d respect him more on that issue if, like Giuliani, he stuck to one position and just said Hey, we disagree, instead of trying to be all things to all people.

Not me. If we're going to commit national suicide, it's better to get it over with quickly than it is with the slow poisoning of big-government, RINO, liberal statism.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Sparks will fly here. Romney would have been a better candidate than McCain in 2008 and he may have even won. But his time has passed. Obama has created an army of committed conservatives. That is the only thing positive that may be said of him.

No doubt, Mitt Romney is an able individual. I’d be happy to see him in a cabinet position. I’m very partial to Sarah Palin, although I’m not sure she is our best candidate, either. She’s been damaged pretty badly by the media.

But I’d vote for a yellow dog over Barack Obama!

Only time I am agreeing with Gibbs.

Romney is uniquely unqualified to be the Republican nominee as the ONLY Republican that supports socialized government run healthcare. Get out of our threads Romney. You are a waste of time and energy.

I won't.

I had to suffer through 2008 and McCain. I only voted for him because of Sarah.

Myth Romney is 2012's McCain.

No how, no way.

Romney is the equivalent of McCain. Sorry, that ship won’t sail anymore. Romney is 2012’s “Mcain’s Momment”. We MUST, send the message, NO RINOo’S. No more reaching across the aisles. Nancy set the template how to legislate.

If Romney was serious about the state of our country, he wouldn’t pursue the presidency. Romney, abort your platform. This Newt wannabe IS NOT WHAT WILL SAVE THE US.

Leave it to the Paul Ryan’s and Michele Bachmann’s. We need to starve the beast. I’m all for the ‘young guns’.

As the socialist said ....

BRING IT ON

Should add: Meaning, the only way Mitt gets nomination is if the GOP has been complete co-opted by the enemy.

Romney is no economic conservative, either. Get a load of the class warfare rhetoric he attacked Steve Forbes with.

Romney is awful. How has he managed to worm his way into top contender status for 2012? I mean, why are we even talking about this person? I literally know of not one single Republican, conservative, libertarian or even a disgruntled Obama voter who is on the Romney bandwagon. Yeah, anecdotal evidence means pretty much nothing, but seriously, who likes this guy?

I for one will NOT hold my nose and vote for the fair-haired gun-banning Romney. If he is nominated, and there's not a place on the ballot for me to write someone else in, I simply will not vote for a president in 2012. I didn't vote for Mr. New World Order, Geo. H. W. Bush, and I can do it again. Besides, there may not even BE an election in 2012. Or even this year.

Please stop posting the pro-Romney stuff. I'm sick enough as it is with the other bad news going on in America.

See the pro-choice part of that ad as well? “All Republicans can agree we should drasticly reduce the number of abortions . . . “

That’s the standard liberal line when they are facing a crowd that doesn’t like abortion. Love the “discourage irresponsible sex” part of that. Nothing about marriage or abstinence. Just “irresponsible sex.” Yuck.

Romney should just come out and say “we tried Obamacare style health care in Massachusetts and I know now it doesn’t work”.
