More like vast expanses of campaign contributions now available to Dems. These bastards are shameless.

And...we don’t have enough refineries. Fat chance building any will be allowed.

Yours is the only comment on the thread that seems to indicate some understanding of oil and gas, so I'll drop these questions on you from another post:

How and why is it the federales control oil exploration and drilling say, 50 miles offshore? Do they own the oil and gas? How is it they can sell leases to something that to my way of thinking at least, doesn’t belong to them? And what about international 12 mile territorial waters boundaries? Did the federales wave a magic wand and commandeer these resources? Well ok, it was more than one question...

Another stray thought....

When (not if) the dollar crashes, one of the greatest sources of inflation will be oil since the US imports so much oil. If this offshore oil is required to be sold to US markets, that inflation source will be greatly diminished. Watch for this provision.

You may be correct in your revised version, but you are still wrong in your original post in which you said...

Those areas have been closed to drilling since 1981...

In response I posted SOURCED material disproving your statement.

President George W Bush has lifted an executive ban on drilling for oil...
Congress last fall ended the broad drilling ban, dating back to 1981...

This type of double talk, moving of the goal posts, revisionism and semantics is what is turning this place into DU.

It is only a few wells off of VA that he is going to allow (Only if Congress and the Courts give the OK, which is highly unlikely).

Hmmm, is this the payoff to certain states to either NOT sue or to drop their lawsuit?

Can he do this single-handedly or does he need approval from congress, if he needs congressional approval, than this is just a ploy to increase his popularity knowing full well Polosi wont approve it.

New leases. Although, they are, ipso facto, trying to abrogate existing offshore lease provisions that were part of the “Royalty Relief Act”, which was designed to incentivize companies to increase offshore reserves, when the price of crude dropped through the floor a number of years ago.

Those lease provisions were for no royalty until the price of crude reached a certain benchmark, I believe. I don’t deal in offshore properties so I am unaware of the exact provisions, however. In general, offshore leases are issued by the Feds, with the respective States participating in a royalty sharing agreement.

Sarah Palin knows well, the ins and outs of the OG business. My take is she would be wrongly spouting back the “populist” line about Big Oil, touted by uninformed people like the current admin and Bill O’Reilly. She did battle in the Alaskan Courts with a couple of companies and that may have influenced her somewhat.

I do not hold it against her however.

This conflicts with his promise to lower sea levels by reduceing Oil consumption.

I think the Crapheads in congress are going to stop him.

This is pure bullshit.

What American company will start building Oil rigs only to have Congress pull the rug out after they invest billions?
