I can't argue against the Phelps clan's right to their freedom of speech which by the way has been severly restricted in a recent congressional bill limiting their access to funerals.

I do however disagree with forcing the Snyder family to pay the assessed legal fees.

With that being said, its unlikely they are going to win at the SCOTUS level and will surely amass tons of legal fees along the way.

The logical solution is for charitable organizations to take up a collection and pay the Snyder family's bills and put an end to this travesty of justice.........

He shouldn’t pay that pile of excrement one dime. Not out of his own pocket, and not from charitable donations. Period.

How ridiculous. That is not *severely* restricting someone's freedom of speech.

They don't have to go to those funerals. They go out of their way to go to them with the sole intent of inflicting emotional pain on the families of the deceased.

They can say what they want, whenever they want, somewhere else. They don't need to go way out of their way to some stranger's funeral to do it.

It would be a good thing in general if a charity was founded for the express purpose of providing funds for the defence of people who are the victims of leftist laws and/or court rulings. The manipulation of the justice system to crush conservative dissidents with financially crippling legal bills, or at worst, jail time is a tactic by the left that is often as effective as it is unjust...

The only travesty of justice was the judge who decided to make the Marine’s family pay the phelps scum legal costs. There was no need for him to do that.

He should have just told phelps to be happy the decision was reversed and go pound sand.

One petty little tyrant judge with delusions of godhood had no business overturning the verdict in a legitimate jury trial. He spit in the faces of more than the Marine and his family.

Every penny Phelps rakes in is yet more funding for his anti-American freak-show campaign.

If Phelps is so much against homosexuality - then why isn’t he protesting in the big centers known for supporting homosexuals - why doesn’t he just make San Fagcisco his personal mission field? OH - because it is much easier to be a pain in the butt for grieving family members of fallen soldiers who gave their lives for this country (and his “right” to be a jerk in public).

Or even more personal - if he wants to harass folks about homosexuals - then why isn’t he stalking homosexual funerals where the death of the individual very well may be directly linked to homosexual behavior?

Which brings us right back to Phelps and his real purpose -

The Snyder family are the victims, they shouldn’t have to pay the perp anything. That said, Phelps’ behaviour falls under harrassment and is not covered by the First. Just the fact that you opined that Phelps has the right to harrass mourners makes me suspicious that you’re a sleeper.

“I can’t argue against the Phelps clan’s right to their freedom of speech”

Freedom of speech does not include disturbing the peace.

The “logical solution” can’t be discussed in an open forum.

That said, I’d dance in the street and pass out candy if this whole Westboro cult got “disappeared”, no matter how, nor by what/whom.

I really don’t care whether some whackier-than-them nutjob waxes their gilded asses in “church” or if The Almighty himself drops a frackin’ asteroid on their heads.

One way or another though; be comforted in this: Hell will be waiting.

The Bill of Rights was written to restrict the government, and empower the people. I think that Mr. Phelps has every right to bring his opinion to the government, and express it however he likes. However, the limitation put upon government is not a limitation put upon the people. I have no requirement to honor anyone's freedom of speech, and am a firm believer in the 'fighting words' concept.

You are more than welcome to open your mouth, but when you're politely asked to take it somewhere else, I firmly believe that it is the best idea to close that mouth and take it somewhere else rather than subject one's self to a knuckle sandwich with a side of molars.

Besides, we're in the new age of ObamaCare - getting your jaw wired back up could require a committee review and be subject to budgetary cutbacks.
