McCain and Palin: Reunited and Feeling Good ("I support his position on immigration")
Fox News ^ | 2010-03-27

Posted on 03/30/2010 8:46:15 AM PDT by rabscuttle385

(snip)

VAN SUSTEREN: Governor Palin, if you were vice president today, what would you be telling a President McCain about what to do about immigration, if anything?

PALIN: I support his position on immigration. It all comes down to securing the border. And he who has actually proposed some solutions, the Obama administration does not want to listen to Senator McCain or any other Republican, and that, of course, leads to a greater problem that we have in Washington, D.C. And it's that lack of the new administration's ability and enthusiasm for listening to those on the other side of the aisle who have some good solutions that they want considered.

This is getting ridiculous. Sarah Palin has made her views on amnesty and immigration perfectly clear. Going through these appearances with McCain searching for ‘gotcha’ moments helps who, exactly? Isn’t this the exact same thing people on this site were complaining about the liberal media doing during the campaign?

Sarah Palin is trying to get John McCain re-elected. She honestly and legitimately believes he is the best man for the job. She hasn’t said anything bad about his opposition, or campaigned against his opposition, she is trying to help someone she respects.

Pretending that her support of McCain is new, or that her opinions have changed, or that we somehow just weren’t aware that she has supported McCain for the last TWO YEARS is not honest. And I don’t see what it accomplishes.

Personally, I admire that Sarah’s put herself in an uncomfortable situation. It means she’s not going to shrink away from making unpopular decisions. I think that’s important in any kind of a leader.

It was a done deal once Palin decided to stump for McCain.

I’m surprised this “news” from a few days ago is a shock to anyone.

Rabs, Sarah has to either disavow the concept of amnesty for illegal immigrants, and re-embrace and reassure conservatives that she is for enforcing the laws that we have, securing the border between the United States and Mexico, or she will end up supporting amnesty by default.

There are too many questions now regarding where she stands on the issue, whether she stands by her past statements (which were AGAINST illegal immigration, remembering that famous comment about 'they're called illegal for a reason' *paraphrased), OR - is she now just John McCain's sock puppet, supporting whatever his position is in order to (gag-choke-spew) "repay her debt to McCain" for selecting her as his VP candidate in '08?

Shorter from that thread.

http://blogtown.portlandmercury.com/BlogtownPDX/archives/2009/12/03/sarah-palin-on-the-lars-larson-show

“...LARS: The amnesty proposal that was defeated in Congress — in your view, was that amnesty for illegals and would you back amnesty for a path to citizenship, as the current president calls it?

SARAH PALIN: No, I’m not for amnesty. Let’s ratchet this down quite simply to remember what we’re referring to. Illegal aliens are called “illegal” for a reason. We need to secure our borders and I am not for amnesty. And there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens who are in our country right now, but if they’re not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.”

“To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

Thanks for the link! That’s done I guess.

Unfortunately, McCain’s “current” position is exactly like his former one

Dec4, 2009 Interview with Lars Larson:
LARS: The amnesty proposal that was defeated in Congress — in your view, was that amnesty for illegals and would you back amnesty for a path to citizenship, as the current president calls it?
SARAH PALIN: No, I’m not for amnesty. Let’s ratchet this down quite simply to remember what we’re referring to. Illegal aliens are called “illegal” for a reason. We need to secure our borders and I am not for amnesty. And there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens who are in our country right now, but if they’re not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.

So in light of her PRESENT endorsement of McCain's position on immigration, was Sarah lying THEN, or is she lying NOW?

You can't have it both ways.

I’ve argued that those who claim her support for McCain is just blind loyalty do Sarah a disservice.

She really believes McCain is the best person for the Senate. She is being honest as she always is, and is honestly endorsing him and asking us to support him.

Regrettable statement by Palin.

Let’s hope it isn’t what it appears.

Thanks for the post. Adds information. Supports a path to citizenship

This seems like a practical way out of the mess without being "mean". Problem is how do you do this and not incentivize more illegal immigration. Seems like the path to citizenship schemes always allow the illegals to remain in place, and are thus, defacto amnesty. If I was an illegal I could care less if the government prevents me from becoming a citizen for 20 years if I'm allowed to continue my life as is unmolested for that time.

Don’t worry. Palin will clarify her position and it will not include amnesty or a “Path to Citizenship” that is damn close to amnesty.

What we need to do is to attack the Mexican/illegal alien crime wawe. Keep it and the welfare Tsunami in front of the public.

MCCain’s open-borders policy is responsible for the murder of an AZ rancher and his dog the other day.

Does Palin support that policy?
