AZ-Sen. 2010: Palin supports war veterans for House (like the "war hero" Old [vulgarity del.] McCain
Facebook (You know, where Palin has over 1.5 million fans) ^ | 2010-03-30

(snip)

"America, if you love your freedom, thank a vet!" Palin wrote on her Facebook page. "And if you're looking for leaders who believe in integrity, service, and country first, look to our veterans."

"Last week I campaigned for a true American hero, John McCain, and this week I'd ask you to join me in supporting a new generation of heroes who are heeding their country's call for leadership in Washington," she added.

(snip) [mod addition - here is what the original poster decided to NOT include]:

There are a number of great veteran candidates running for office this year, and there are some excellent organizations dedicated to helping them, including: Iraq Vets for Congress and Combat Veterans for Congress (please click on the links to visit their websites).

There are three veterans in particular I’ll be supporting this week.

The first is Major Vaughn Ward, a fourth-generation Idaho native who grew up on his family’s farm in Shoshone and is running in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District. Coming from a family with a proud military tradition, Vaughn joined the Marine Corps after college and was finishing up his service when the September 11th attacks occurred. He put his life on hold and heeded his country’s call – serving first as a CIA Operations Officer and later volunteering with the Marine Corps for a combat tour in Iraq, during which he was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V. After returning from Iraq, Vaughn went to work for the McCain/Palin campaign. I was grateful for his support then, and I’m happy to support him now because I know that he believes in the same commonsense conservative ideals that we cherish. Vaughn knows that real job growth comes from the private sector, not government. He believes in free market reforms, tax relief for families and small businesses, and a return to a constitutionally limited government that lives within its means. He’ll carry the conservative banner to Washington and will rein in the reckless growth of government to get it back on our side. And remember, a vote for Vaughn is a vote to remove the gavel from Nancy Pelosi’s grip. Please visit Vaughn’s website here to make a donation to his campaign, and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

The second veteran is Captain Adam Kinzinger, a decorated special-operations pilot who flew combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Adam is running for Illinois’ 11th Congressional District against a freshman incumbent congresswoman who seemed to pull a bait and switch on voters to get elected. She sounded like a blue dog on the campaign trail, but didn’t vote like one in Washington. Instead, she voted in lockstep with the Pelosi agenda – on Obamacare, the stimulus, cap-and-tax – and the list goes on. She’s part of the reason for Congress’ 11% approval rating. Adam is a strong fiscal conservative with a proven track record as a reformer from his years serving on his local county board. Adam started out in local office, and, like many of us, believes in making government more accountable to the people. When you serve in local office, your constituents truly are your neighbors. Adam understands this, and I know that he will listen to his constituents and work for us, not against us, in Washington. Please visit Adam’s website here to make a donation to his campaign, and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

The third veteran is Lieutenant Colonel Allen West, a decorated war hero who’s served with distinction in combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of you may have heard of Allen from a speech he gave last year that became a viral video on YouTube with over 2 million viewers. Allen’s personal story is a testament to the commonsense conservative belief that our nation’s greatness is rooted in freedom, because with freedom comes equal opportunity, and that, coupled with hard work, leads to success. Allen is a small government fiscal conservative running against a leftwing ideologue who’s marched to the beat of Nancy Pelosi on every issue from cap-and-tax to the stimulus, TARP, and, of course, Obamacare. It’s time to send Allen to Washington in his place. Please visit Allen’s website here to donate to his campaign, and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

I believe that these great veterans will fight for us in D.C. to uphold and defend our constitution as courageously in the halls of Congress as they did on the field of battle. I’m so honored to offer my support to these American heroes, and I hope you’ll join me in helping them so that they can serve us all in Washington.

I like Sarah Palin; I believe she has the right values.

John McCain is bad news. Not evil personally, but exactly what Washington DC has become. He is a first class member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has always been a government dependent; Navy admiral father, military career, never in charge of a productive competitive, capitalist enterprise. He is old, inarticulate, and failing in intellect. He has no values to declare that are in concert with free enterprise, or tragically, loyalty to protecting the American citizen from a genuine invasion of illegals from a neighboring country.

Why Sarah actively supports John McCain I am not sure, except that perhaps she sees him as someone to sway to the conservative (responsible American) viewpoint. The loyalty thing only goes so far, especially when John McCain is worth millions of dollars and can retire in comfort, and when he could gracefully be "let go."

We owe John McCain respect for his military service and sacrifice, but the current Leftist abyss facing America is far, far beyond that. John McCain does not have the foundation for fighting that.

I'll bet the majority of conservatively aware voters see this likewise. Tragically that does not necessarily mean a majority.

Oh, calm down. I wasn’t suggesting that you couldn’t critize McCain. What I was suggesting that unless you live in Arizona, your criticism isn’t worth much since you can’t vote him in or out. That’s all...

I have always been puzzled by this "hero" claim...how are you a hero if you get shot down, and captured?

Aren't heroes the ones who swoop in and rescue or save the lives of hundreds of fellow soldiers or friendly civilians?

I hear McCain't was shot down, or crashed, more than one time.

I guess if he was tortured and refused to divulge information, it's somewhat heroic.

But a full fledged Hero?

I don't know... are those who fought this nation's wars and were never wounded heros? Of course they are.

I think that you are splitting some mighty fine hairs.

I’ve come to the conclusion that most of McCain’s support is reluctant at best.

So do you support Rabscuttle in his reprehensible name-calling?

And before you attack me, remember, I am one of the most staunch Anti-McCain posters on this site, even Rabs can verify that.

Everything about McCain is tainted, however, he did serve his country.

Rabs has gone around the bend on this one.

Good grief. Another “I hate Palin” thread, thinly wrapped in our collective disdain for McCain.

Give it a rest, rabs. We all know your agenda by now.

"Of course they are. I think that you are splitting some mighty fine hairs. "

You may be right.

But if everyone is a "hero" then no one is any more special than the other. That comes from the same line of thinking that wants to do away with scores and sporting events, grades in school, and "valedictorians" at graduation. They are the "we are all the same" people.

Well, I don't think we are all the same. The G.I. who stands up and storms and stonghold is more of a hero than the guy who stays in the foxhole in the fetal position.

The definition of bravery I like is, "Brave people are just as afraid as anyone else, but they forge ahead anyway.".

But I just can't see what is heroic about being wounded, per se. With that line of thinking, I could just stand up in my foxhole, just to get shot, and collect my Congressional Medal of Honor?

You can't say to a G.I. who charges ahead and single-handedly captures 30 of the enemy, saving his batallion, that "you are no more of a hero that that guy huddled in the foxhole."...that would be ridiculous.

If we are to celebrate and award heros, then there has to be some differentation between their accomplishments and those who were "just there".

Understandable position(in fact one I hold myself), however, that being said, is it appropriate, or even honorable to attack his service.

Wow Rabs, you sure are giving McCain a lot of bandwidth. You must really have a secret man crush on him, you post at least 3 articles each day about him.

So, Rabs, you can't give it a rest long enough to let Palin help promote three solid GOP veteran candidates?

What else can we expect from a Paultard?

You and Rabs are two peas in a pod.

The same use of extreme nasty hyperbole for those that are basicly on your side.

Is ‘Rabs’ running for office? I can’t control any poster’s actions, you are a perfect example of that. I’m not a moderator, it’s not my concern. So if you’re such a ‘Anti McCain poster, why do you bitch and moan at all of us who post against him? So McCain ‘served’ his country. BS, he’s doing all he can to damage this nation.

STOP it. I’m tired of you hounding us all about other posters. We have NOTHING to say to each other.

I think McCain and the rest of the POWs in the Hanoi Hilton certainly qualify as heros. That’s how I see it. If you disagree with me, then so be it.

"Understandable position(in fact one I hold myself), however, that being said, is it appropriate, or even honorable to attack his service. "

I fail to see where I "attacked" his service, you'll have to point that one out to me.

I spent four years in the U.S. Air Force; The most dangerous place I was sent was Germany. I worked in a missile shop, testing and aligning guided missiles.

I was in the service, but I was not a "hero".

Now, the civilians put service people into the "hero" status because we volunteer a portion of our time and lives to provide protection, but in a military sense we can't all be "heroes".

Call it splitting hairs or "attacking" (a cute little word liberals use when you dare to disagree or have your own opinion about something), I don't care. I have the utmost respect for anyone who wears the uniform, but they can't all be heroes.

Do NOT post to me about your petty complaints about other posters! What part of that do you not understand?

Rabs and I have been round and round over Ron Paul. So what? Fact is, though I fought like hell agaisnt Paul for president, he’s right about as many things, or more, that John McCain ever was.

I pushed him to vote for McCain in the 2008 election....MY MISTAKE. I wish now I hadn’t voted for them, because your Sarah Palin is NOT the conservative she pretended to be.
Some of you are so blind you totally ignore HER words.
And YES, you sound just like Obama supporters. The truth hurts.

All you want is the debate shut down over McCain/Palin. How very ‘progressive’ of you. NOT going to happen.
