After reading the US and international press over the past week, one could be forgiven for thinking that the president had just won a world war.
Weve been bombarded with headlines on both sides of the Atlantic lauding a reinvigorated, all-powerful president, with a spring in his step who could no doubt walk on water if he deigned to do so. Indeed, in the last few days, Barack Obama and Joe Biden have strutted across the country with a vain swagger that would make a peacock blush, from the vice presidents classless, foul-mouthed victory boast at the White House, to the presidents contemptuous mocking of his political opponents at a rally in Iowa.
Both leaders have been beaming like the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, living in their own Tim Burton-like fantasy. And what have they actually achieved? The passage of a massively controversial, divisive and hugely expensive health care reform bill via a Democrat-dominated Congress in the face of overwhelming public opposition, and without a shred of bi-partisan support.
And a nuclear arms agreement with the Russians that works to the advantage of Moscow. The first of the two victories will add nearly a trillion dollars to the national debt, and dramatically increases the power of the federal government over the lives of ordinary Americans. The second is a feel-good PR exercise that does nothing at all to make the world safer in an era of rogue states and Islamist terrorism.
Looking past the smoke and mirrors spin wafting out of the White House, the future looks far more grim. Under Barack Obama the United States is drowning under $13 trillion of debt, with the health care bill likely to significantly add to that burden. The $787 billion stimulus package has failed to create jobs

Humans are fallible to a fault. Some are evil and will not let go, no matter what.
“It must eventually be reversed by future presidents, not only for the sake of the American people, but for the sake of the free world.”
To the rest of the world:
Remember how much fun it was kicking George W. Bush?
Remember the great times you had saying America was a force for evil in the world?
Remember the good feeling you got from watching Obama get elected, knowing it was the signal of America in decline?
Be careful what you wish for, because you got what you wanted.
Obama is feckless on foreign policy, even Joe Biden warned us on that one.
America has been European-ized. Our media have convinced the weak minded here that the European way is the proper way.
Obama will see to the disarming of America.
The world’s last, best hope is no longer available. Good luck, and let us know how it works out for you. (It’s not going to work out too well for us either.)
Two new current events books out in Japanese these days about AMERICAN DECLINE and it is essentially chocked up to our "President Obama".
I wonder when the Americans will find out. Seems nearly the whole words is "getting it".
Excellent article!
-- When a great nation turns on its own friends and embraces its adversaries you know there is something fundamentally wrong with its leadership.
He’s hit the nail on the head with this article. Every sentence is true, which is unusual for a Brit commenting on American politics.
My neighbor is from Uruguay and just lost his job. He listens to Mark Levin, Beck and Rush. He wanted to join our military but he is too old. He is in such a bad mood and told me he left his country to escape this and now the idiots are voting for this guy and his agenda.
Bttt!
Good read.
BUMP!
Please change the word "will" to the words "had already".
There....fixed it.

And our enemies sit back and wait for their most opportune moment while his supporters continue to worship him. And it probably won’t be long.
Maybe a nuclear winter, caused by Obama’s destruction of America, will be the cause of the end of the world in 2012 as some say the Mayans predicted. Wouldn’t it be a hell of a note if Obama was defeated in November of 2012 and the next month it’s the end of the world. Just my luck.
This is the Telegraph, not the Times.
Sometimes it helps to be outside of the situation looking in.
What a shame that Obama’s harshest critics are from a foreign media. Our media just wants to get invited to play basketball with him.
I hate American Media. Even Fox News.
It is just SO SAD that so frequently we now we get the true perspective and broad outlook from abroad. The European nations that do not like us are thrilled that we are traveling down the route they took years ago that stripped them of their freedoms. The European countries that remember exactly what kind of friend we have been and how we stand between them and slavery even today, are sad for us and realize that duhbama is the single worst thing to ever happen to America in terms of leadership.
So sad that the first man who has a bit of color to his skin is such an amazing puke.
