The left's next move: Salary caps
Washington Times ^ | March 27, 2010 | Editorial

Emboldened by the passage of health care legislation, the Obama administration will set its sights on a new target - regulating how much money you can make.

Recipients of federal bailout money already face regulations designed to rein in "excessive" corporate salaries. Since the administration has proclaimed this first step a success, it is only a matter of time before it seeks broader control over private-sector compensation.

The administration gave itself a pat on the back for a job well done after "only" 16 of 104 senior corporate executives quit when their salaries fell under the pay czar's knife. The administration takes this as indisputable proof that high salaries are not needed to keep executives in their jobs.

The evidence, however, is far from compelling. . . .

And if politically Obama cannot get salary caps directly, he will get them indirectly by continuing to screw up the economy.

it makes sense. free markets create winners and losers. this administration seems hell bent on making the central government an agent to level all of us.

the CEO of AT&T should have the same life as the homeless guy that lives under a bridge.

This idea comes from the people who think high school teachers should make as much as famous athletes. We’ll see if the Hollyweird set agrees to crop the ill-gotten gains from their movies.

Individual slaves had and have in todays’ black-market slave markets an assigned market value. Why not assign work values salary caps based on job descriptions to all employees also? Self-employment should be destroyed...as it is being for solo MDs now. All of the rest of us will follow that model. Salary caps are the same thing as slave commodity market valuations, and, in our society will be a way of commoditizing human labor value. Such labor can be securitized too, just like prime and subprime mortgages. Will Gore and allies form a Chicago Labor Securitization Exchange also? It is possible that a national labor market using securitizations for trading purposes can be established following the model of the Obama, et al, founded, Chicago Carbon Futures Exchange. Imagine, your labor value assumed and regulated and traded on a world-wide basis, just as mortgages!!! You will not know who owns your contract!! Healthcare will be accorded to your worth and longevity in the workFARCE. Expect nothing on your discharge from the workFARCE. Just thinking.

I’m retired from a Fortune top 20 company; it escapes me why they have not re-located their HQ from the U.S. to an overseas location to get out from under the lunacy that now exists in D.C. I predict that many companies will do just that to retain some measure of freedom over their structure and practices and for the tax benefits that will accrue.

That passes as 'proof'? I'm surprised we haven't heard more on Elvis & UFO sightings coming from DC.

My guess is those who left found better salaries elsewhere.

As a child, I was taught to use envy as an inspiration to become a better person, and become educated enough to acquire the material things I wanted.

I think that hating people because they have something you don't, is childish and makes no one miserable except yourself.

If anyone has managed to work themselves into a position to make tons of money, the more power to them...the more rich people we have, the more jobs and opportunities for us all.

But any government deciding that someone is making too much money, or getting to large a bonus, is pure, unadultrated COMMUNISM.

As long as I pay my taxes, whatever I make is no of the government's business. In fact, the first thing I think of when I hear they want to "cap" my salary, is to quit work and earn it "under the table".

That is the kind of reverse effects this obamaland fantasy is going to net him in the end...Atlas will shrug and he will be left holding all of the promises he made to the "moocher" class, and no money to pay them with...that is when THEY will break out the tar and feathers.

So here's the obama agenda:

They want to tell you IF you can be born - abortion.

They want to tell you HOW you will live - healthcare

They want to tell you how WELL you can live - Salary Caps

They want to tell you who you will SUPPORT - Amnesty

and...

They want to tell you when it's time to die - obamacare death panels.

Now, is this really the "change" America wanted?

If he really wants to ruin the economy he should go after salespeople and related occupations by limiting their commissions. That’ll make us a turd world nation in no time flat!!

People in the Obama Administration may try to have salary caps for private sector workers legislated, but they obviously don’t think about where their revenues come from. With their idiocy, we’ll eventually see small government by way of default.

They are capped. They make 147,000 a year. They can’t get bonus’. They can vote in a three percent raise every now and then but will never get what CEO’s are paid.
