Domestic violence
I am an active advocate against domestic violence and have been since May 12, 2001. In that time I have had the opportunity to speak to more groups of people than I can remember; large and small, adults and students, and all types of civic, social, and church groups. I have given my presentations to literally thousands of people all over this sate. In the course of talking with people before and after my presentations I have come to realize several things that you will not find in the national and local statistics about domestic violence. First, I truly believe that at least 50% of every women in our society will be the victim of physical or emotional violence by the time she is an adult. Either in high school, college, or some dating relationship, at least one half of all women become victims of some form of violence, almost always at the hand of a man. Most women recover, get away, get on with their lives and often times forget about it. Many do not survive or ever forget it.
The second thing I have learned is that most men believe it is a women's problem, especially men who have never lived in a violent home, have never experienced relationship violence, and have never been violent to their partner. Men simply see it as a women's issue and they could not be more wrong. The vast majority of the time when there is violence in a relationship it is the man who is dishing it out. That is an undisputed fact. Men are not only responsible for their own behavior, but men need to accept the responsibility of mentoring the young men in their lives. Us men need to mentor and teach our sons, grandsons, nephews and any other young man who looks up to us that violence against women is not acceptable. We need to teach the young men in our lives how to properly deal with emotion and relationships. Until we men step up and have the hard talks with our young men, the plague of domestic violence in our society will continue as it has for far too many generations.
For the man who replies to this with, "hey, I don't have violence in my house and I have never been violent in my relationships with others," I say, that is not enough. We must mentor our young men. We owe it to our daughters, granddaughters, nieces, sisters, and to all the women in our lives.
I am honored to serve as a board member for CHOICES eliminating domestic violence. CHOICES has been a powerhouse nonprofit in the fight against domestic violence for over 30 years, running the battered victims shelter and hotline here in central Ohio as well as conducting a host of other advocacy efforts. But these are tough times for most nonprofits and CHOICES needs your help. Please join me in my advocacy against domestic and relationship violence by signing up to ride in the third annual "Ride, Bexley, Ride" Police Chief's family bicycle ride and walk against domestic violence on May 22. The event starts at 9 am at the magnificent Jeffrey Mansion in Bexley with stops at the Governor's Mansion and OSU President Gordon Gee's home. The entry fee is $25 per individual and $50 per family with all proceeds going directly to CHOICES. We also need sponsors for the ride. For more information and to sign up or make a donation please go to WWW.CHOICESColumbus.org
Come join us in our stand against domestic violence and take a ride or walk through beautiful Bexley. Don't forget your helmet.

Granted the guy’s probably a moonbat (there are lots of ‘em in that neighborhood), but realistically how many false accusations of physical abuse do you think women make?
Statistically speaking, the woman initiates the violence about 60% of the time, and the man finishes it over 90% of the time.
Nothing to do with superior morality, just physical differences.
And how many males will be in a fight (even on a schoolyard) by the time they reach adulthood?
Girls punch, kick, scratch, and bite too. Saw a catfight at a bar just last month. 3 on 2.
It happens every day. Happened to me during my divorce. I spent three days in jail until the charges were dropped at my arraignment.
Ping!
What a BUFFOON, Domestic Violence cut’s evenly among all lines, whether it’s men and women, lesbo’s or sodomites. Women are the AGGRESSOR in 50% of All Domestic Violence. In Ventura County, CA. 75% of the people in Anger Management Classes are WOMEN. Why are Idiots like this allowed to carry a Firearm?? He appears to be an Obvious Danger to the Community.
I do believe browbeating can be a very detrimental thing, but that is so vague as to mean that you can’t ever ever raise your voice.
Emotional Abuse?
In the same delivery the guy says men must stand up and be a mentor to their male children. Yes, just do it without raising your voice or going negative.
I’m sorry, perhaps I’m the problem, but the Mr. Roger’s approach just doesn’t sell in the real world, unless being the ultimate pansy and despised by every member of your family for a different reason, is the goal.
Young men need to know that the old man is there to make sure they mind their Ps and Qs. Otherwise, they have cart blanch to go down the road to ruination.
The damage done by the absense of strong male figures is quite evident in today’s society. Only that never quite makes the 11 O’clock, in lieu of covering the latest drive by.
My husband had an employee, the nicest guy you could ever know, who married a woman who already had a child. The had a child together after marrying.
She outweighed him by at least 50 lb, she was not fat, just big and strong. One day she tossed him through a plate glass window in their house. He was arrested.
She’s now long gone. He adopted her first child and has sole custody of both children.
Men are often victims too.
Men don’t report. And if this jerk thinks emotional abuse is only leveled by men, he’s a day late and a dollar short.
Because such coverage would be considered racist by the usual suspects.
Just what every city needs in a police chief.
My children ages 13 and 14 were both convinced I was beating up my wife routinely. She had them convinced of this. I mean, how can the kids live in the same home with you and be that delusional? They had convinced a next door neighbor of it. People just don’t get it unless they’ve seen this first hand.
“I spent three days in jail until the charges were dropped at my arraignment.”
Wymen never lie about anything, rape, DV, harassment so even though you might be innocent you deserve jail time because you’re a man and thus a POTENTIAL rapist or abuser. /s
There’s no way people should spend even one minute in jail based just on one persons word. But when it comes to rape, DV and other female related crimes you ARE guilty until she decides you’ve suffered enough. Someone on another blog suggested moving to a corrupt third world country like Mexico because at least you have the chance to bribe your way out of trouble, in the US you have no chance.
Amen, brother.

I was serious when I asked Why is This Mentally Deranged Person Allowed to carry a Firearm?? If I lived there I would be demanding an Immediate Psychological Evaluation, not to mention his resignation for LYING to the PUBLIC.
All Persons required by Law to Take an Oath to uphold, Defend, Or Enforce The laws, or the Constitution of Any State or the United STates, Shall Be Guilty of a Felony punishable by a Mandatory 10 years in prison For Making Deliberate False or Misleading Statements in a Professional Capacity.
Thanks, and sorry for the double post. My computer got the hick-ups. ;-)
As a former abused wife this guy is full of it. No way are 50% of women at risk IIRC the stat is that one out of 4 will experice some sort of abuse in their life time which can range from emotional to violence. Most women who live with violence will never let you know about it until after it stops and she gets away because it is too risky to let anyone know and take a chance on being beat to death. This guy has a distorted view of it probbly because he sees so much of it in his job.
